| Hi everyone, I've got a lot of news coming up in relatively short order - my book releases in a month, so I've set up book launch events in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, California, and a few others are hopefully in the works. As a result, my workshops schedule for the fall is pretty minimal - in fact, I have a Scranton Lace workshop this weekend and a Pennhurst night photography workshop the following Friday (details below) and that's it for a bit until I get stabilized after the book launch. The Abandoned America website has been a top priority of mine in the last few months. I've streamlined the menus, polished the layout, added larger thumbnails, and a whole bunch of other things that are boring to talk about but translate to a more enjoyable visit for you. I also have been plowing through old galleries and revamping them - reediting old pictures, adding new ones, adding larger image files. Conquistadore China was literally the first gallery I added to the website when I migrated over to my current webhost in 2011, so it was definitely due for a facelift. Conquistadore China (a pseudonym) was one of my favorite spots - it had thousands of pieces of china still left, patterns and forms everywhere, and like so many industrial complexes it was one massive building composed of dozens of smaller buildings built (and closed) around different times, so it had a lot of variety and was a great examination of the different strata of American china production, from modern industrial to belt driven machinery. Much of what was really special has since been destroyed in fires, but I got there when it was still intact... Or, as intact as you can call a building that was rotting so bad that it was literally falling apart. You can check it out here. Workshops: There are only two workshops left before I start the rounds for my second book tour - and spaces are filling up fast! Side note, Scranton Lace is looking like work may at long last begin on it (article here) so don't make any assumptions about it being there to visit later. Of course, if you follow the ups and downs of plans for the factory you also are aware that for all I know, it could be there in its current condition for another year or two. I can't predict, but I will say that the article I linked to seems like the pressure is on to make something happen there. Book info: I will be sending out the information on the book release events as they stand so far in the next update. I hope you'll join me at them, and as always I am tremendously grateful for your interest in my work and your support. Sincerely, Matthew Christopher PS: It is important to me to respect your privacy and not to bother you with updates if you'd prefer not to receive them.
