Falcons QB Matt Ryan goes 7-for-7 in preseason win Posted: 08 Aug 2014 10:15 PM PDT Falcons QB Matt Ryan had a good opening drive versus the Miami Dolphins, going 7-of-7 for 53 yards. He showed patience and chemistry, hooking up with WR Roddy White four of the seven times. Atlanta receiver Julio Jones did not play, yet WR Harry Douglas and TE Levine Toilolo filled in the gap, catching a pass each from Ryan. FANTASY ANALYSIS: He looked good and did it with ease. If main targets White and Jones stay healthy, Matty-Ice can put up great fantasy numbers this year. He currently has an ADP of QB9 and can be had in the 6fh round.
Falcons RB Devonta Freeman gets third-string duties Posted: 08 Aug 2014 09:48 PM PDT Playing his first preseason game Friday night with the Atlanta Falcons, rookie Devonta Freeman had third-string duties, running behind Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith. While reports have come out of camp that he's had a slow start in training camp, many expected him to be the starter with injury-prone RB Steven Jackson sitting out. Against the second and third-string defense of the Dolphins, Freeman was able to put up 10 carries for 50 yards and one catch for 57 yards. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's frustrating to see his current position on the depth chart. He's been touted as one of the best handcuffs to own this year because of Jackson's constant injuries and age, yet Freeman won't get much of a look if he stays in his current position on the depth-chart. It's encouraging that he did well when he got his chance, but it means very little against non-starters. Freeman has 3 more preseason games to improve.
Raiders WR Denarius Moore on 'roster bubble' Posted: 08 Aug 2014 04:15 PM PDT Paul Gutierrez, an ESPN reporter for the Raiders, believes that Denarius Moore's starting position is in jeopardy. Moore was listed with the third-team offense behind Andre Holmes, James Jones, Rod Streater, and Greg Little on the Raiders' initial depth chart. Moore is 25 years old and entering the last year of his rookie contract. He has shown excellent playmaking ability in his three years in the NFL, but he's shown signs of poor work ethic. In the 2013 season Moore totaled 46 receptions on 86 targets; he also garnered 695 yards and five touchdowns. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Moore already had little value in most leagues and with the addition of multiple wide receivers to the Raider's roster that value is quickly diminishing. In deeper leagues, Moore was a solid performer last year; he never had less than two receptions and was a consistent producer. Moore simply may not be able to compete with the current talent the Raiders have at the wide receiver position. This is a good sign for those targeting someone like Jones in the later rounds of the draft.
Patriots RB James White struggles in first preseason game Posted: 08 Aug 2014 03:42 PM PDT James White, the rookie running back out of Wisconsin, has been the most talked about player in Patriot's training camp. He's been receiving goal-line carries, plenty of touches and has shown tremendous potential. In Thursday's preseason opener White came off the bench behind veteran Steven Ridley. He failed to impress anyone rushing four times for nine yards. Although underperforming in a single preseason game isn't the most favorable option for White, the Patriot's staff has their eye on him. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Being a running back on the Patriots is not an easy task. Head coach Bill Belichick does not tolerate fumbles or turnovers. These are two things that Ridley seemingly loved to do in 2013, causing him to be benched in favor of Shane Vereen. If Ridley continues to struggle holding onto the ball this season, White seemingly has the upper hand in replacing him. White is a late-round flyer that could potentially become a starter later in the season. If you can afford the roster space and are looking for a running back with a possibility of being placed into a starting role, White is your guy.
Panthers QB Cam Newton still experiencing sharp pains in ankle Posted: 08 Aug 2014 03:11 PM PDT Cam Newton underwent surgery during the offseason to repair ligaments in his ankle. The intention of the surgery was to tighten the ligaments within the ankle as they were stretched out. Newton was fully cleared for training camp, but he still feels the sharp pains and describes them akin to, quot;A thump from your mom when you said something that you weren't supposed to." Because of the random spurts of pain, Newton has been seeing less practice time. Wednesday was his shortest amount of time participating at camp and on Thursday he practiced even less. There is no word whether Newton will play any time at all during the Panther's preseason game this Friday night. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Although Newton is still struggling with the pain, it's very possible it could subside before the season begins. He has yet to see any designed running plays in camp in an attempt to protect him from further injury. If the pain does not go away and lingers during the season Newton's big play-making ability will be hampered. One of Newton's highlights is his ability to scramble out of the pocket for a long run, and this injury could certainly affect that. With the lack of options, a healing ankle and worse offensive line, Newton is a risky start every week. He has the talent, but the situation is poor. I would pick up Newton as a QB2 and plug him in sparingly.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson suffers concussion Posted: 08 Aug 2014 09:48 AM PDT C.J. Anderson suffered a concussion in the Broncos preseason opener versus the Seahawks Thursday night. SI.com reports that Anderson took a hit to the helmet from Seahawks LB Brock Coyle, and was forced to leave the game. Because of the NFL concussion protocol, he'll be forced to miss at least some practice time following the injury. Anderson is currently listed third on the Broncos RB depth chart. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This isn't good news for Anderson, who was already slipping behind RB Ronnie Hillman in the pecking order. Each day he misses in practice is an opportunity for Hillman to solidify his hold on the number two job, backing up Broncos RB Montee Ball. Anderson was thought by some analysts to be a better option than Hillman heading into this season, but based on practice reps and the team's depth chart, the Broncos disagree. Anderson is ranked as the 87th RB by FFtoolbox.com, and should not be drafted except in the very deepest of leagues.
