Experience The World's Most Tragic Love Story With The Romeo And Juliet New Movie

By Tameka Ware

Just over hour hundred years ago, William Shakespeare wrote a play about two 'star-cross'd lovers'. It has become synonymous with stories of love overcoming all differences, even if it has a tragic ending. There have been many stage and screen versions, even ballet versions of the story. In 2013 you can relive the tale when the Romeo and Juliet new movie is released.

Written at the start of his career, Shakespeare's most enduring play saw its first appearance in print in 1597. A few decades earlier there was a similar story in Italy and The Bard borrowed from this. In fact, there is a balcony in Verona that is said to be the one where the real girls the female title character was based on appeared to her lover.

The story is about two young lovers in the Italian city of Verona. They are from two families that are sworn enemies. Romeo, from the House of Montague, meets Juliet, from the House of Capulet, at a ball that he gatecrashes. They fall passionately in love and the next day they get married in secret. The priest who helps them get married hopes that their union will reunite their families.

Juliet's cousin Tybalt, mad at the hero for gatecrashing the party, wants to fight him in a duel. The hero's friend Mercutio accepts the challenge on his behalf and fights Tybault. However, he is killed. Romeo kills Tybault and has to leave Verona.

Juliet's family, not knowing that she's married already, wants her to get married to another man. She goes to the priest for help and he gives her a drug that will temporarily place her into a type of coma, so that it will seem as if she's died. He sends a message to her exiled husband about the plan, but the messenger doesn't reach Romeo in time. When he hears about his bride's 'death', the hero buys some poison and goes to the crypt where his love is lying. He drinks the poison, so when the heroine awakens, she finds him dead. In grief she stabs herself to death too.

The play has been adapted for the big screen in several versions since the early days of cinema. It also inspired other stories and movie scripts. The new version of the play is directed by Carlo Carlei, a renowned Italian director.

The cast includes Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld as the title characters. Booth is a British actor and model who beat three hundred other actors in getting the part. He follows in the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the role in the last significant film version of the story, directed by Baz Luhrman. Steinfeld is especially known for her Oscar-nominated part in 'True Grit' and will join notable actresses like Norma Shearer, Olivia Hussey and Claire Danes in portraying the tragic heroine on screen.

Experienced and respected actors like Stellan Skarsgard, Lesley Manville and Natascha McElhone will star in the film too. Ed Westwick from 'Gossip Girl' plays the part of Tybault. Set for release in February 2013, the Romeo and Juliet new movie is one you shouldn't miss. It is the perfect movie to take your date to.
