Ravens WR Kamar Aiken starting at OTAs Posted: 04 Jun 2015 11:27 AM PDT The Ravens have decided to go with Kamar Aiken as the starter opposite Steve Smith Sr. at OTAs. They apparently are not willing to just hand the job to first-round pick Breshad Perriman. Aiken has reportedly been very impressive so far this offseason. He looks determined to hold on to that starting job and hold off Perriman. FANTASY ANALYSIS: While odds are Perriman will be given the starting job, Aiken is probably the better option. Perriman is a very raw rookie that is not yet NFL ready. Aiken has been in the pros for two seasons and caught 24 passes for 267 yards and three TDs last season. Unfortunately for Aiken, Perriman is a first-rounder and he was an undrafted free agent. According to his current ADP, Aiken is not being drafted. Four other Ravens WRs are being drafted including Perriman as the WR33. Aiken may be worth a late round flier, he may be the second most valuable wideout in Baltimore. |
Cowboys RB Darren McFadden sitting out with strained hamstring Posted: 04 Jun 2015 11:04 AM PDT Cowboys' running back Darren McFadden was not able to participate in OTAs on Wednesday due to a hamstring strain. McFadden has a lengthy injury history from his days in Oakland and at Arkansas. It is not yet known when he will be ready to return. Ryan Williams is also sidelined with a sore knee, leaving Joseph Randle to handle just about all the first-team reps. FANTASY ANALYSIS: McFadden being injured may be the least shocking news of the offseason. Odds are this will be a trend this season because he is one of the most injury plagued backs in recent history. It appears that Randle is pulling further and further away as the likely starting running back in Dallas. The only way McFadden wins the starting job is if Randle either gets injured or does something dumb off the field. Still, the Cowboys are expected to deploy a committee of running backs this season. |
Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry could play on the outside this season Posted: 04 Jun 2015 01:20 AM PDT Earlier this offseason it appeared that second-year wideout Jarvis Landry was locked in to the slot position. Now the Dolphins are saying they're not opposed to the idea of Landry playing on the outside as well. Landry himself has said that he doesn't "want to be limited to a slot player". His head coach Joe Philbin further elaborated on the situation. "Part of it is getting players in the right spots," Philbin said. "We know a little bit more about Jarvis, we know a lot about him as a slot. Part of the OTAs, mandatory minicamps, would be, what are some of the things he can do well on the outside? I think that if you are going to line up and play us, you're going to be ready for him in the slot. But you may not quite be ready for him outside. So what are some of the things we can exploit, take advantage of based on his alignment? He's really worked hard. His route-running fundamentals have looked really good." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Regardless of where Landry is lining up this season, he's PPR gold. He caught 84 passes last season and only looks to improve in 2015. I still believe he'll spend the majority of his time in the slot, he's just such a perfect fit. Especially with Kenny Stills and Devante Parker on the outside. The Dolphins have a very well-constructed offense with a blossoming young QB under center. Landry is currently fairly priced as the WR26. |

Bills RB LeSean McCoy back at 11-on-11 drills at OTAs Posted: 03 Jun 2015 07:39 PM PDT Bills' running back LeSean McCoy was sidelined last week with a sore neck. The injury was never believed to be serious and it appears it wasn't. McCoy was back participating in 11-on-11 drills at OTAs today. McCoy did not show any affects from the injury. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The injury was never expected to be serious but it's still good to see him out on the field to confirm it. McCoy is a sure fire RB1 this season in Buffalo. It has been made clear that the Bills are going to ride McCoy until the wheels fall off. On pure volume alone he should be a top 10 back. His biggest concern will be the offensive line being able to block for him. He's currently being drafted as the No. 4 RB, which is fair value. |
Titans QB Marcus Mariota to see '50 or 60 percent' of his snaps in shotgun Posted: 03 Jun 2015 06:36 PM PDT The big question when the Titans drafted Marcus Mariota with the second-overall pick was if the team would adjust the offense to his skill set or try to force him to adjust. Despite winning a Heisman Trophy, Mariota's college game is not one that tends to translate to the pros. Nonetheless, the Titans are trying to tailor their offense to him. His quarterbacks coach John McNulty says he'll see about "50 or 60 percent" of his snaps in the shotgun this season. quot;I think you are in the 'gun a little more now anyway," McNulty said. "The under center gives you a little more threat of the run and play action, and to push the ball down the field type of thing. But the way things go with the pass rush, you are in the 'gun a big part of the time. Marcus has adjusted well to it all. He's a natural. Marcus is just one of those guys who kind of just picks the ball up and says, 'What do you want me to do?' " FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's encouraging that the team is adjusting to his skill set and not forcing him into their mold. We have seen that fail time and time again in the past. Regardless of the system, the Titans lack talent on offense. They really aren't particularly good at any position, including quarterback. No disrespect to Delanie Walker, but he should never be your best player on the field. Don't expect Mariota to do much this season, at least not with his arm. |

Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon could be an every-down back according to OC Greg Olson Posted: 03 Jun 2015 12:16 PM PDT The Jaguars drafted T.J. Yeldon early in the second-round. It's beginning to sound more and more like he'll be seeing feature-back touches as a rookie. His offensive coordinator Greg Olson had very high praise for Yeldon. "He was a playmaker and he played big in big games," Olson said. "He's a very knowledgeable, intelligent player at the running back position and Alabama runs a Pro-Style offense and we were able to see him do things protection-wise and route running-wise and blocking [-wise] that will translate to this level of football. hellip; [Playing every down] would be asking a lot of any player. I wouldn't put it past him. He's another real self-starter and hard worker." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is not a shocking revelation. Yeldon has very little competition for carries. Denard Robinson could take a chunk of his PPR value but that's pretty much it. When it comes to potential pure volume of touches, Yeldon has the upside to be an RB1. How he will do in Jacksonville and his actual production is a whole other story. He should be drafted as a low-end RB2 with upside. His current ADP has him being drafted as the RB17. While that's a bit high for me, it's not a huge stretch. |
