Raiders RB Latavius Murray poised for a 'huge year'

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 03:19 AM PDT

Raiders' young running back Latavius Murray had his coming out party last season against the Chiefs before suffering a concussion. This season Darren McFadden has mercifully been allowed to leave and now Murray is the man in Oakland. A source close to the team believes he is poised to have a monster season. Per source on Murray: quot;Has a chance at a huge year in this system. Because he is smart, physically a freak." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Murray had been a fantasy sleeper for a few season in the fantasy industry. Everyone was pretty much just waiting for him to get his opportunity. Once he did, he more than made the most of it. This season he will be flying up draft boards the closer we get to the regular season. He's currently being drafted as a low-end RB2. He has high-end RB2 value. Murray is no longer a sleeper and I believe he's could be the breakout player of the year. I've been very high on him since he was a rookie though.

Broncos RB Montee Ball says he was never at full strength last season

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 03:05 AM PDT

Montee Ball was a massive disappointment in Denver last season. Particularly since C.J. Anderson was so good. Now Ball says he's much healthier now and he's coming for his starting job. quot;I feel great right now," Ball said. "Never felt better. I implemented a lot of pilates in my regimen to strengthen my core because they dug inside of me to get my appendix. And then that kind of weakened my core, which, I think, resulted in my groin going out. I focused on pilates and yoga, and I think it helped. I want my starting spot back. I want to rush for 1,000 yards. But I also want to win. I want to win the Super Bowl." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Many will be sour on Ball this season after he killed them last season considering he was at worst a second-round pick. I am expecting a committee approach from the Broncos this season. Ball could very well bounce back and have a solid year. This season he's being drafted as the No. 50 RB. He certainly has a ton of value there. Don't hesitate to draft him if he falls that far.

The Cowboys want to get RB Lance Dunbar 'more involved'

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 02:54 AM PDT

Cowboys' running back Lance Dunbar failed to hit the 100-yard mark last season for the entire season. He totaled 29 carries for 99 yards. With DeMarco Murray gone, Dunbar could get a lot more opportunities this season, especially in such a weak RB corps. Cowboys' running backs coach Gary Brown made it clear he wants to utilize Dunbar more. "I envision [him getting more opportunities]," Gary said. "I think he's a hell of a football player, we've got to try and get him more involved and I think [offensive coordinator Scott Linehan] is going to do a great job doing that." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's really not that improbable to think that Dunbar could emerge as the man in Dallas. I wouldn't bet on it but I wouldn't be shocked either. Darren McFadden is brittle and unproductive, while the team doesn't trust Joseph Randle as he makes one bad choice after another. If nothing else, Dunbar will at some point jump McFadden on the depth chart, he's just better at this point in their careers. I don't love him, however, you could use a late-round flier on him. If nothing else, the line is great.

Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has shown 'growth' according to Ben Roethlisberger

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 02:38 AM PDT

Steelers' second-year wide receiver Martavis Bryant will look to build off a solid rookie campaign. His quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been very impressed with his work ethic and how improved he is this season. I have seen growth. I have seen a guy that wants to be good, wants to be great, every day he is working at his craft and talking to me about things he can improve on. You just see him continuing to grow and learn from the best in the business who is in his room in Antonio (Brown)." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Bryant should have a much better season in 2015. Especially considering he didn't even play in the first six games of the season due to the fact he was so raw coming out of Clemson. His ADP currently has him as the 29th receiver coming off the board. That is fair value, however, his upside is immense. The sky is the limit for Bryant. Having arguably the best WR in the league opposite him and a future HOF quarterback doesn't hurt either. The biggest concern with Bryant is the possibility of him becoming a boom-or-bust guy. Last season, he was a lot more boom than bust.

Cardinals WR John Brown expected to do 'huge things'

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 07:30 PM PDT

During the loud emergence of rookie wide receivers last season, Arizona Cardinals third-rounder John Brown quietly turned heads and stalked around headlines. Brown was a consistent weapon in the Cardinals' passing attack and showed flashes of potential, exploding for long gains and exposing the secondary with his speed. On Tuesday, Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said, quot;I expect huge things from (Brown) this year." The second-year receiver has been bulking up and improving this offseason. Learning behind Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, Brown is being molded with the best of company. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Last year, Brown had borderline WR3 status and he probably wouldn't start on most fantasy teams. With another offseason under his belt, I feel as though he could easily push to be a consistent WR3 producer and possibly a decent WR2, thanks to Arizona's pass-first offense. Brown is too fast to not be an amazing weapon and he was already torching defensive backs in his rookie campaign. I wouldn't mind stashing Brown as a high-upside player.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota 'deadly accurate' at OTAs

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 07:09 PM PDT

The hype does not seem to be declining for rookie QB Marcus Mariota. Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson expressed his opinion of Mariota on Tuesday. quot; He's real," Jefferson said. "He's got the goods." According to Jefferson, Mariota has been "deadly accurate" during OTAs, and Jefferson is "just giddy" about Mariota's future with the franchise. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's always nice to hear positivity coming out of camp. It isn't only the fan base that is excited, but the players and coaches too. Based on what is coming out of Titans camp, there is something special brewing here, and Mariota has already developed a very good rapport with much of the team's receiving corps. From a fantasy perspective though, hold your horses. Marcus has yet to see an official NFL snap and has a long road ahead in his adjustment to the NFL. I don't see Mariota being fantasy viable until later in the season, at which point you will most likely have your every-week starting QB already entrenched.

Giants QB Eli Manning showing better decision-making in OTAs

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 06:56 PM PDT

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is coming off a pronounced end to the 2014 season. With the ball rolling, Manning is on track to continue right where he left off. Although it's only OTAs, Manning has reportedly been close to interception-free in those practices, something that could not be said about Eli heading into Ben McAdoo's offense last season. Manning is currently working without his top two weapons in Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham but, according beat reports, has shown little distress to the fact that they are missing. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Manning has not missed a single regular-season game since the 2004 season; I wish that kind of consistency would actually carry over to his in-game and fantasy production. He is seemingly on a roller coaster throughout the season, starting hot and finishing cold -- or the opposite of that sometimes. Granted, Manning seems to always have decent-looking numbers at the end of the season. Yet he can seemingly go hot or cold at any moment, and that is one thing to watch out for from the veteran. Coming into the 2015 season, however, I'm banking on him being hot, very hot. With an increase in offensive weapons, I see Manning as a borderline top-10 QB this year.

Ravens OC Marc Trestman has high praise for rookie WR Breshad Perriman

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 06:25 PM PDT

The Ravens' first-round pick Breshad Perriman has been highly criticized for his drops and lack of versatility. He's considered a very raw talent for a first-rounder. However, offensive coordinator Marc Trestman has been very impressed with the young wideout. "What we saw on tape is what we are getting, quot; Trestman said. "We really liked what we saw on tape, obviously. And what we're getting is a guy who is continually improving. He has a good understanding of the game. He's not just a fast guy, he's a smart guy. He is going to learn how to use patience and use other aspects of playing the position, his size, his hand speed, to get off the line of scrimmage. So, that's really awesome to see that he's a quick learner, and he's catching the ball and making plays just like we saw him do on tape." FANTASY ANALYSIS: I am one of the people that has been highly critical of Perriman being selected in the first round. As good as Ravens' general manager Ozzie Newsome has been over the years, he does not exactly have a knack for drafting wide receivers. Anquan Boldin may be the best wideout the team has ever had. When you talk about all-time great WRs drafted by the Ravens, the two best may be Torrey Smith and Brandon Stokley. That's horrible. I believe Perriman will not top this list. I'm not touching him in redrafts.

Titans WR Kendall Wright wants to get back on track in 2015

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 06:19 PM PDT

Kendall Wright came into the 2014 season with a full head of steam. Based on his numbers previous to 2014, Wright was expecting to improve greatly. Instead, Wright saw major dips in his reception and yardage totals. Specifically, he caught 37 fewer passes and gained 364 fewer yards compared to his rookie year. However, he did score six more touchdowns than in 2013. Regarding his 2014 production, Wright said Monday, quot;I was definitely very surprised by the numbers. I thought they would be way better." The mystified WR wants to get back on track in 2015 by whatever means necessary. "That's the main priority," Wright said about getting better. "Just doing it right, getting in and out of my breaks faster, being precise about routes for the quarterback's sake, so the spacing and all that can be right." FANTASY ANALYSIS: There is a lot of banter regarding whether the Titans' scheme is holding Wright back or if he simply isn't happy in Tennessee. The fact that the Titans were moving through quarterbacks left and right certainly did not help Wright's production, but other receivers have been able to produce under similar circumstances. Based on last year's production, I see Wright coming into the season as a low-end WR3 with the upside to be a WR2. With Marcus Mariota in town, we might see the Titans loosen the reins on their passing game, and Wright would be one of the first players to possibly benefit from that.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson is working with veteran teammate Lance Moore

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 06:07 PM PDT

Calvin Johnson may be the most gifted athlete the league has ever seen. He struggled through injuries last season and had somewhat of a down year for him. In that down year he caught 71 passes for 1,077 yards and eight TDs in just 13 games. This offseason he's working with veteran wideout Lance Moore. Moore seems to think that Megatron is going to do big things in the second year of the offensive system once ran by Moore's Saints teams. "It's going to be pretty crazy, a second year in this offense," Moore said. "I'm trying to help him with a few little things route-wise that I think can help him a whole lot and make his job a lot easier out there." FANTASY ANALYSIS: You can make a strong case for Megatron being both the biggest matchup nightmare and arguably the greatest wide receiver of all time. To say it's going to be crazy isn't exactly that huge of a stretch. Johnson is still my No. 2 fantasy WR behind only Antonio Brown. For the first time in a long time, he's being drafted in the second round, not the first. Not only that, he's the eighth WR off the board. If you're picking late in the first round, don't hesitate to draft Johnson. If he falls to you in the second than you got a fantastic pick.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart's workload will be based off of production

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 04:02 PM PDT

Jonathan Stewart has been projected to be the Panthers' top back or at least part of a two-back system for a long time now. However, he has been plagued with injuries over the past three seasons and even before that was banged up a lot. The 28-year-old back still has talent but injuries have taken their toll on his body and it has shown in his production. Now his head coach Ron Rivera wants to base his touches based on how he's performing. quot;Honestly it's going to come down to how you are doing," Rivera said. "If you are running the ball well, obviously you are going to feed him. We would like to be able to run the ball when we have to and run the ball when we want to." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's hard to argue with the play the hot hand game plan. Stewart's current ADP has him as the RB27. I'm not sure I'm buying that high. If I'm drafting a Panthers' running back, I'm going with rookie Cameron Artis-Payne who is coming off the board as the RB55. He has just as much upside and comes at a much cheaper price. Especially considering Stewart's injury history.

Jaguars WR Allen Robinson is 'progressing nicely' and is ahead of schedule

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 03:44 PM PDT

Jaguars 2014 second-round pick Allen Robinson was off to a solid start to his career before a stress fracture in his foot ended his rookie campaign. However, his head coach Gus Bradley said "he's really progressing nicely" and is ahead of schedule in his rehab. Robinson has already returned to practice in a limited capacity, now it looks like he'll be without limitations very soon. "My goal has been to be able to get into OTAs and the minicamp coming ndash; just get in that period so I can come into camp and hit the ground running. It's been good to get the repetitions in," Robinson said. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is great news for the Jags. Robinson is one of the most talented, well-polished young wideouts in the league. He is the most important piece of the Jags young offense. I expect him to emerge as WR2 this season, however, you should be able to grab him as a WR3. Despite the fact that his draft class may be the greatest ever when it comes to wideouts, he is still among the top five in the group.

Bills WR Sammy Watkins is now pain free

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 03:26 PM PDT

Bills' star receiver Sammy Watkins underwent hip surgery this offseason. He has been extremely limited so far but seems to be progressing well. While he's still easing his way back, his hip is no longer causing him any major discomfort. "Everything is pain free," Watkins said. "I am taking it easy, I am taking it slow. I am not doing everything 100-percent. I am basically just going to give it time and rest to feel comfortable with myself and get the injury out of my head. So when it comes time at training camp to play and compete, I can compete." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Watkins is very talented, however, he has a lot working against him this season. None of those things have anything to do with his hip. First off, he has a terrible quarterback situation that Matt Cassel is the favorite to win. That really hurts Watkins because Cassel struggles with the deep ball, which is Watkins' bread and butter. Also there are a lot more pass-catchers to target this season, like Percy Harvin, Charles Clay and even LeSean McCoy. Speaking of McCoy, Rex Ryan sounds like he wants to hand him the ball 50 times a game. That's obviously an exaggeration, nonetheless, you get my point.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has been cleared for 11-on-11 drills

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 03:13 PM PDT

Cardinals' starting quarterback Carson Palmer is coming off a torn ACL for the second time in his career. While he was always expected to be ready for the season, he's progressing very well. He was actually just cleared for 11-on-11 drills starting immediately. This is a welcomed sight for the Cards. After being a top team for the majority of 2014, they struggled mightily after Palmer went down. They will need Palmer to make another playoff run. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It was brutal to watch last season as the Cardinals were forced to endure the Ryan Lindley era. He gives Blaine Gabbert a run for his money as the worst quarterback ever. Palmer is currently being drafted as the QB27 due to the injury. He's much better than that. He has mid-range QB2 upside. If you can grab him that late you will be getting quite the bargain. He's been good in Arizona when healthy.

Tony Romo believes NFL's action was just about money

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker should be at full strength in 8-12 weeks

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 03:00 PM PDT

Dolphins' first-round pick recently underwent surgery to replace a screw in his foot. Parker said he expects to be ready in eight weeks. However, orthopedic surgeon and former NFL team physician David Chao believes 12 weeks may be a more realistic target. "Are they bone grafting him? If they are, that's going to be longer than eight weeks," Chao said. "If they're just putting in a slightly bigger screw, you've got a chance at eight weeks, but I don't know if it's a guarantee." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Whether it's eight or twelve weeks, Parker is just too talented to not beat out Greg Jennings sooner than later. This will surely drop Parker's ADP and you should take full advantage. Snatch him up and hold him on your bench for the first few weeks if necessary. He's going to be a star in this league and may be the most talented player on a blossoming young offense in Miami. I believe he will emerge as the top rookie WR in this year's draft and like him to outperform even Amari Cooper during the duration of their rookie contracts.

Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham still limited at OTAs

Posted: 09 Jun 2015 02:47 PM PDT

Titans' rookie wideout Dorial Green-Beckham has still been very limited at OTAs. It seems more precautionary than anything else, but it's still a tough break that he's missing much needed reps. He hopes with rest he'll be a full go by next week. quot;I'm shooting for mini-camp as a full go," Green-Beckham said. "I'm just watching my hamstring, really, that's my main concern, making sure that I take care of my body. It's just being able to protect myself, making sure I'm not overdoing my hamstring and still doing some work at the same time." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Missing or being limited through most of OTAs is a huge blow to DGB's fantasy value. He's a raw talent that needs every rep he can get. It also puts him further behind Justin Hunter in their position battle. Before the injury I was much higher on DGB. I still love his upside in dynasty leagues, nevertheless, I'm not expecting a whole lot from him this season. It doesn't help that I'm not sold on his quarterback either. If he does breakout this season, I would expect it to be similar to what Martavis Bryant did last season. A late emergence, which shows off his incredible athleticism.
