Packers WR Davante Adams is beginning to reach his potential

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 12:04 PM PDT

Heading into his second season in the NFL, Packers' wideout Davante Adams is beginning to show why the team drafted him in the second round of last season's draft despite having much more pressing needs. His MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has taken notice of his tremendous abilities. "In my mind, he has humongous upside ndash; and he's starting to reach that upside," Rodgers said. "I think the opportunities are going to come for him. He's got two great guys to play with. His attention to detail is very impressive and his approach. Obviously, the athleticism – as you see on Twitter with his 360, between-the-legs dunk – is incredible. He brings a different set of skills to the field that we haven't seen around here with his body type, his athleticism and his approach. If you look at the guys who've struck around here and gotten second and third contracts, it's guys who really understand how to make this work for them – the game within the game: The note-taking, the preparation, the study habits, the focus, the practice habits. Look at the two guys in this room (Nelson and Cobb) who had phenomenal seasons last year. They both have a great approach to their job and you're seeing Davante really do that. The biggest example to me of the kind of guy that he is, is last year when he went through stretches where he didn't catch the ball, has a huge game against New England, then goes through stretches again where he doesn't get a lot of balls thrown his way, then has a big game against Dallas. That's all about approach and focus. And you can't teach that." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This all well and good but Adams still isn't poised for any kind of monster season. The fact still remains that Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Eddie Lacy are all still ahead of him on the food chain. Adams is a solid player but that's really about it. He's definitely worth a late-round flier, however, I don't see him developing into much more than a bye week fill-in this season. There are only so many balls to go around in Green Bay.

Texans HC Bill O'Brien has great news for fantasy owners of RB Arian Foster

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 11:48 AM PDT

Arian Foster has had his fair share of bumps and bruises over the past few seasons, nonetheless, when healthy he's also been one of the most dominant forces in all of fantasy football. Each season people speculate that Foster will be receiving a reduced workload. Texans' head coach Bill O'Brien is putting those rumors to rest early this offseason. He made sure to reassure Foster's fantasy owners. quot; He's been out there every day and it shows," O'Brien said. "We've been able to do some decent things on offense this spring. A lot of it has to do with him being out there … Well, we have a very good running back. So you can rest assured that as long as he's healthy and he's out there, we will run the ball. I can tell you that. That's one thing we will do." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Foster is a terrifying prospect due to his injury concerns, nevertheless, the reward is well worth the risk. He was a top three back last season when it comes to points per game. There are very few running backs in the league with more upside than him. According to his ADP he's currently being drafted as an RB2. If Foster is your RB2, you are in great shape. He's among the best in the league and has been since exploding on to the fantasy scene in 2010.

Cowboys WR Terrance Williams is having a great offseason according to Tony Romo

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 11:32 AM PDT

Cowboys' wideout Terrance Williams is a distant WR2 in Dallas. Nonetheless, he's an important cog in the Cowboys' offense. He has had a tremendous offseason to this point. No one has been more impressed with the progress he's made than his quarterback Tony Romo. "Terrance has had one of the best off-seasons I've seen in a while," Romo said. "So I'm very excited about his approach, the way that he's played up to this point in the off-season. He's just improved, and I'm excited about that development." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Although he may be having a great offseason, he has a relatively low fantasy ceiling. Dez Bryant is the clear top target and the Cowboys plan to once again deploy a run-heavy offense, this year perhaps even more than last. He is nothing more than a WR4 at best, possibly even a WR5. He is currently being drafted as the 65th overall WR according to his ADP. Williams isn't much more than a fantasy afterthought with some upside. Barring an injury to Bryant, Williams won't be much more than a desperation flex start.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel living with his high school coach

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 11:14 AM PDT

Browns' second-year quarterback and polarizing figure Johnny Manziel has been taking steps all offseason to get his life and career back on track. He's gone to rehab and moved from downtown into the suburbs. The next step he's taken is to move his high school offensive coordinator Julius Scott into his home with him. Scott is one of the biggest influences on his life and Manziel believes he helped mold him into the man that he's become. quot; When I saw him, I just lost it," Manziel said. "I bawled my eyes out right there. I told him, 'I would never have been here without you.'" FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is an interesting situation. Not specifically Manziel living with his high school coach but Manziel's situation as a whole. Everything we're hearing about Manziel has been positive. His coaches and teammates have raved about the steps he's taken as a man and the way he's approaching his job as a quarterback. On the other hand, we have heard nothing but bad things surrounding his actual play on the field. It appears he's become a great teammate and matured individual, however, he may just not be good enough to play on the NFL level.

Lions RB Ameer Abdullah even better than advertised as a pass-catcher

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 01:42 AM PDT

Lions' rookie running back Ameer Abdullah was expected to be an excellent pass-catcher. However, apparently he has been great in camp. His offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi has been blown away by his receiving ability. "I like Abdullah more every day," Lombardi said. "Every day you can see him do things that really excite you. He didn't get a chance maybe to show everything he can do as a receiver at Nebraska, but he's even better in that phase of the game than I thought when we drafted him, so it was kind of a bonus when you see how well he catches the ball and how well he runs routes." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Abdullah is expected to battle Theo Riddick for snaps on pass-catching downs. He was an excellent prospect but Riddick has made waves of his own. Still, it seems inevitable that Abdullah will eventually win this job. While I wouldn't want him in standard leagues, he does have PPR value. The issue is he's being drafted as the RB24 according to his ADP. That's just way to high. It's even ahead of the Lion's feature back Joique Bell. It's tough to fathom why.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger believes this is the best offense he's ever played in

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 01:29 AM PDT

It's hard to not be wowed by Ben Roethlisberger's weapons in Pittsburgh. He has arguably the best receiver in the league in Antonio Brown and another young star opposite him in Martavis Bryant. His running back Le'Veon Bell is pretty much the consensus best young back in the league and DeAngelo Williams is a solid backup. Then he has his old reliable tight end Heath Miller. Big Ben clearly didn't want to say this is the best Steelers' offense of his career, but he still pretty much said it. quot;I hate to say yes or no, because I don't want to offend anybody else that's been here," said Roethlisberger. "But you look at stats from the NFL, we had the No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 1 overall back. Kind of hard to argue with those numbers." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Big Ben is 100 percent right, it is hard to argue with those numbers. Bell is my top fantasy back and Brown my top wideout. Roethlisberger has to be considered a top four fantasy QB this season. His ADP has him as the QB9 but that's way too low. My only question is if he or Russell Wilson is No. 3. If Roethlisberger falls out of the top five, snatch him up as fast as you can. He should not last that long.

Cowboys RB Darren McFadden continues to miss time with a hamstring strain

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 01:08 AM PDT

In the least shocking news of the day, Darren McFadden continues to be sidelined by injury. Due to a hamstring strain he's limited to rehabbing his injury on the side. He has expressed his frustration with yet another injury, nevertheless, he has accepted that he's better off missing time in June than in September. "It's definitely frustrating," McFadden said. "You want to always be out there taking plays, getting reps. But it's one of those things I'd rather sit out now instead of pushing it and have something lingering on me." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Much like every other season of his career, McFadden is injured. He is stuck on the sidelines watching the rest of the Cowboys' running backs pass him on the depth chart. Sadly enough, odds are he won't only be missing time during OTAs. You can't count on McFadden to stay healthy or be productive when he is. You are best off passing on McFadden this season, regardless of how far he falls. If you are still buying into McFadden at this point, it may time to hang up your keyboard.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning accepting fewer snaps in camp

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 12:52 AM PDT

Peyton Manning has always been the kind of guy that wants to take just about every single snap all offseason. Things are different this year and he has been forced to relinquish some of his snaps. However, he seems to be accepting of the change and understands it's what's best for both him and the team. quot;I mean, obviously, he would go every day and even longer than we'd ask him to. It's just the way he's built," Kubiak said of Manning. "But I think it's been good, because you spend a lot of quality time with the other guys. It's just important for these young guys to get better. (Manning) understands that. He needs some help on this team. He needs some young guys to step up and help him be successful. He understands the cause, so asking him to do that is hopefully helping the cause." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Odds are Manning has enough experience that losing reps in camp shouldn't impact him come regular season. He also has enough experience with the majority of his weapons that they have built chemistry. The one issue may be that he will be learning a new system this season. Still, if you are having concerns about drafting Manning this season, his durability is a much bigger issue. The fact that the Broncos may run the ball a lot more this season could also be a concern. Manning should be drafted as a mid to low-end QB1 in 2015.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson not likely to play in preseason

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 10:09 PM PDT

Vikings' running back seems to have put all the theatrics behind him and is back with his team. He is at full strength and in great condition during OTAs, however, the veteran back is not expected to see the field during the preseason. At least that's what his head coach Mike Zimmer believes at the moment. "I probably don't see that, no,'' Zimmer said. "We're talking in June, so you can't hold me to it, but he's carried the ball a lot (in his eight-year career) and he's going to continue to carry the ball a lot. He'll get plenty of looks and reps in practice. He's looked good. He's done a good job of really everything, carrying the football, a good job of protection, a good job of catching the football. He seems to be enjoying himself. hellip; It's nice to see when we see him run the ball, get the ball in his hands and accelerate and the cuts he's made, he's looked exceptional." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This really doesn't matter much. He's a veteran getting up there in age and the team clearly wants to preserve him and save all his touches for when they count. Peterson's ADP currently has him ranked as the RB10. With that said, I've seen quite a few mock drafts and I haven't seen him fall out of the top five. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen anybody be picked first overall more than Peterson and Jamaal Charles. You will have to draft him high but he will likely be worth it. The only knock on him is he doesn't have the PPR value as some of the top backs, nevertheless, he will see a ton of carries to make up for it.

Packers WR Jordy Nelson back at practice

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 09:50 PM PDT

Jordy Nelson returned to Packers' OTAs after an apparent hip surgery this offseason. He is right on schedule and believes he will be at full strength come training camp. quot; We're right where we want to be," Nelson said after practice. "We set a plan at the beginning, and we're hitting every target. We feel good and like I said a couple of weeks ago, we'll be ready to go by training camp. The important stuff is training camp, so it's nice to get the script [of the plays] and be out there and take the mental reps and help the young guys out. So I'll be ready and sharp mentally and by the time training camp comes we'll be ready to go." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Jordy Nelson should and will be drafted as a WR1. There are some durability concerns, nevertheless, he's Aaron Rodgers go-to guy. I have him on the lower end of WR1s but you're pretty much splitting hairs between a lot of the WRs clumped up in that area. Offseason hip surgery and past injuries drop him a bit for me. Also the fact that I think he's more a product of his QB and not quite as talented as most the top guys. So if Rodgers gets hurt as he often does, Nelson drops off more significantly than many others would without their starting QB.

Saints RB Mark Ingram back on the field

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 09:33 PM PDT

Mark Ingram has been sidelined from Saints' OTAs for about two weeks now. He was out due to a foot and ankle injury the team was very vague about and described it only as a "tweak". On Wednesday he returned to practice and looked pretty healthy. The injury was never considered serious but it's still good to see him back out there with the team. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Ingram is currently being drafted as the RB15. That's a little bit high, I'm still a bit skeptical of him after he was so disappointing early in his career. I also really like his backup Khiry Robinson, don't like that he doesn't have much PPR value and worry about his durability. He's a guy I'd rather have as a flex option but he won't be falling that far. One things for sure though, he's a much better option than the inexplicably overvalued C.J. Spiller.

Lions RB Joique Bell may not be in ideal condition when training camp starts

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 09:10 PM PDT

The Lions' projected RB1 Joique Bell is still rehabbing from offseason procedures on his knee and Achilles. The team is a bit concerned about his conditioning entering training camp being that he has not been able to practice. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi expressed his concern about the issue. "Really, I think your biggest concern is just, is he going to be able to get in the shape that you wanted to at the beginning of camp," Lombardi said. "But we'll be careful with him and smart and ramp him up as we go." FANTASY ANALYSIS: I am very high on Bell as I was last season. He really came through huge from Thanksgiving on. He will be the feature back in Detroit as he was last season. Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah will battle for third-down opportunities. Bell's ADP currently has him ranked as the RB30 which is six spots behind Abdullah for some reason, likely skewed by dynasty drafts. I wouldn't mind having him as a low-end RB2, however, he's an ideal flex option.

Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin sidelined with a foot issue

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 04:48 PM PDT

The Chiefs acquired former Eagles' star receiver Jeremy Maclin in free agency. He's coming off an 85 catch, 1,318 yard and 10 touchdown season. His talent is undeniable, however, there is one knock on Maclin and it's his durability. Currently he is sitting out of OTAs with an inflamed foot and is considered day-to-day. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Maclin has the ability to be great, nevertheless, he's a very intriguing option this season. Durability aside, he's also playing in an offense that failed to have a WR score a touchdown. That is absolutely atrocious in today's NFL. While I think Maclin will help raise the play of the Chiefs' WR corps, he will also take a bit of a hit to his production. He's currently being drafted as a borderline WR2/WR3. I really like his value as the WR24. I believe he'll outperform his current ADP.

Cardinals TE Troy Niklas will have ankle surgery

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 04:33 PM PDT

Cardinals' tight end Troy Niklas has a real shot to be the team's top TE. After the unexpected retirement of John Carlson, Niklas was thrusted into a larger role. Unfortunately he suffered a high-ankle sprain last season, which required surgery. He once again rolled that same ankle and will be forced to undergo another procedure on the ankle. He is still expected to be ready for training camp. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Although he's expected to be ready for training camp, this has to be very concerning. The Cards have not been able to make a tight end relevant in quite a while. So it's not overly likely they will be able to turn a blocking tight end into a fantasy star. Niklas currently does not have an ADP because he isn't being drafted. He is a late-round flier at best in deeper leagues.

49ers TE Vernon Davis 'looks extremely fast' at OTAs

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 04:18 PM PDT

49ers Pro-Bowl tight end Vernon Davis was absolutely miserable last season. He totaled just 26 receptions for 245 yards and two touchdowns. This offseason his head coach Jim Tomsula says he looks great, like the guy we had grown accustom to prior to last season's debacle. quot;Vernon is stretching the field," Tomsula. "Vernon looks extremely fast. Catching the ball really well. Again, the next three days, I'd rather you watch it then me talk a lot about it because you'll have the opportunity to see it." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Davis's ADP has dropped him all the way down to the TE27. That seems like a bit much. Sure his quarterback is subpar and he's coming off a nightmarishly bad season, but he's still been a top fantasy tight end for a long time. He deserve to be at least a low-end TE2 based on upside alone. I feel he should be just inside the top 20 TEs. He could be a disaster, however, it wouldn't be shocking if he bounced back and was at least a productive TE2 or even a low-end TE1.

Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is targeting a $100 million contract

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 04:01 PM PDT

Jaguars' second-year quarterback Blake Bortles have taken notice of all the $100 million contracts being doled out to young quarterbacks. Bortles has his sights set on the same goal. $100 million is always exciting," Bortles said. "Those guys all earn it. They're great quarterbacks and they get paid what they deserve. That's the goal. I try and get better each and every day and why not make a career out of this, not a job? I want to be here long term and do as much as I can to make this team better and have a blast doing it." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Some people will see this and say it shouldn't be about the money. Well this is his job and it's really easy to say the money shouldn't matter when it's not your money. The fact of the matter is, if he does earn that massive contract, it means he has been playing at a very high level. Which is exactly what the Jags and fantasy owners are hoping for. He's still a QB3 at this point but certainly has the weapons to make a big jump this season. Too many people are sleeping on the upside of the Jags' offense this season.

Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham looking forward to the challenge of blocking

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 03:45 PM PDT

The biggest knock on Jimmy Graham is the fact that he can't block. He has been described as soft and lacks fundamentals due to the fact he only played one season of football at The U. The Seahawks fully intend on teaching him how to block and utilizing him on the line. It sounds like Graham is looking forward to the challenge. "Listen man, I'm 270 pounds," Graham said. "I can block anybody I want to. It's all about want to. Personally, I'm excited to block. When you go in the game and you're guarded by corners and safeties for most of your career and you keep getting doubled, that's never a good thing. I know that's just going to help this offense out. It'll help give looks to where guys can't stack the box with 10 guys. So for me, it's all positive. I can't wait. That's what I've been focusing on since I got here. The routes and the passing offense, that obviously comes natural. So for me, it about focusing on what they're trying to do here, which is the running game. It's the staple of this offense and I'm proud the be a part of it." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Graham is among the elite of the elite. Adding another weapon to his arsenal will only help him be more productive. Being on the field on blocking downs can only lead to more opportunities to make plays. When plays break down or are changed at the line, Graham is the most likely beneficiary. Many people are skeptical about his ability to maintain his production without Drew Brees. I'm not one of those people. In my eyes, Graham is far and away the second best TE in the league.

Raiders QB Derek Carr says he's at '100 percent'

Posted: 10 Jun 2015 03:31 PM PDT

Raiders' quarterback Derek Carr has been very limited through most OTAs with an injury to his right ring finger. He is now back as a full participant in practice, which is a welcomed site for the perpetually miserable franchise. Carr claims he feels like he's back to full strength despite being a little rusty. quot;I'm 100 percent,'' Carr said. "If I could be more than 100, that's where I'm at. It started to get better as practice went on. As more reps come, it will be more natural like it should be, but I was definitely rusty at first.'' FANTASY ANALYSIS: Having Carr back and healthy is of course great news for Oakland. They are still a ways away from relevancy at this point, nevertheless, Carr gives them some hope and promise. Two things they haven't had in a long time. As of now, he should be considered a low-end QB2 with upside. Most of his upside is tied to first-round pick Amari Cooper.
