Patriots sign QB Matt Flynn

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 07:53 PM PDT

It looks like Matt Flynn has got another job based off that one great game he had against the Lions. This time he has signed on with the Patriots. If he makes the roster, he will likely back up Jimmy Garoppolo for the duration of Tom Brady's suspension. Since leaving the Packers, Flynn has bounced around the league, most notably with the Seahawks and Raiders. FANTASY ANALYSIS: First Tebow-Mania, now Flynn-Sanity hits New England! No, not really. This is pretty irrelevant and if Garoppolo was to go down, the Pats are in serious trouble. Hopefully for the sake of both the Patriots and fantasy owners, we will not see Flynn on the field anytime soon or anytime ever for that matter. No one should be drafting Flynn and Garoppolo doesn't hold all that much value either.

Jaguars WR Marqise Lee not expected to participate next week

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 07:42 PM PDT

Jaguars' second-year wideout Marqise Lee is still nursing an injured knee. According to his head coach Gus Bradley, it's more than likely he'll be held out of next week's minicamp. Lee was available to comment on the situation. quot;I'm slowly progressing back," Lee said. "The trainers don't want to rush anything. Of course, I want to be out there and I feel like I could be out there. But, we aren't playing yet and I understand the coaches' and trainers' mindsets in getting me fully ready for when we come into training camp." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This injury is not considered serious, so he should be fine for training camp. However, I was never a fan of Lee's talent. I didn't like him coming out of USC and I don't like him now. Lee is the fourth-best WR on his own team, fifth if Justin Blackmon ever actually came back. I will not be drafting Lee in any leagues regardless of how far he drops. I'd rather have Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns or Rashad Greene.

Fantasy University: Using the bye week to your advantage

Dealing with bye weeks can be stressful for many Fantasy Football owners. But not if you follow these tips.

Jets RB Chris Ivory is currently No. 1 on the depth chart

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 06:56 PM PDT

According to Jets' head coach Todd Bowles Chris Ivory is the top running back on the depth chart. Behind him is Bilal Powell then Daryl Richardson. Zac Stacy is still learning the offense but could jump up. It's important to note that Stevan Ridley is still injured and not on the depth chart. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Everybody pretty much knew this was a two-horse race between Ivory and Ridley. So Ivory being No. 1 right now shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody. However, it will get interesting once Ridley does return from ACL surgery. Rumors have already swirled that the new coaching staff may believe he's a better fit than Ivory. This will be a battle that will have to be monitored all offseason and perhaps right into the regular season. Personally, I would take Ivory just because he is a lower risk being that he's not coming off an ACL tear.

Giants QB Eli Manning believes Rueben Randle will 'have a big year'

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 06:26 PM PDT

Giants' wide receiver Rueben Randle has always been considered an underachiever. He has the talent but hasn't really been able to put it all together for a full season. He had a solid 2014 campaign, putting up 71 receptions for 938 yards and three TDs. His quarterback Eli Manning expects him to build off that and put together a breakout season. "I think Rueben'll have a big year," Manning said. "I think Rueben can be a great receiver, a dominant receiver. I think he has the ability, it's just kind of getting it for 16 games and hopefully more than that with the playoffs. I think he has it in him. You've definitely seen him from Day 1 to Day Now, just the maturity level is definitely improved, he's all in, he's been here working, he's been here off days, and so been impressed with his commitment, and I know he's excited for a big year, wants to have a big year, and I think he can do that." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Randle is a tough guy to judge. The first thing that has to be figured out is whether having so much talent around him will help him make more plays or limit his opportunities. I wouldn't want him as anything more than a WR5. He's currently being drafted as the WR64 so he does have value. That's a long way for him to fall. I wouldn't mind scooping him up in that slot.

49ers RB Reggie Bush getting the RB1 reps at OTAs

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 06:11 PM PDT

Reggie Bush is getting the first reps with the first-team in every drill at OTAs. Bush is the veteran back on the team and knows how to run the drills the way they are supposed to be run. 49ers' running backs coach Tom Rathman has been using his as the example of what to do when going through the drills. It's also important to note that both Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter are coming off injury. FANTASY ANALYSIS: There are two reasons that Bush is getting these reps. Neither reason is because he's better or it's a sign of things to come. He is getting respect as a veteran back and as I stated previously, he sets a good example being that he's been a lead back before. Also, Hyde is just returning from a leg injury and they want to make him compete. The 49ers do not want to just hand him a feature-back job without making him work for it. Hyde is the man to draft in San Francisco and Bush will pretty much be an afterthought.

Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin returns to practice after hamstring scare

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 04:26 PM PDT

Panthers' second-year wideout had been sidelined with a hamstring injury. There was some concern that it could be a somewhat serious issue. There were even rumors that there could even be a slight tear. Fortunately that does not appear to be the case. Benjamin was a participant at OTAs today and the hamstring no longer seems to be an issue. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is great news for Carolina because they really need Benjamin's presence on the field. Cam Newton relies heavily on him. His current ADP has him as the WR16. He's a steal that late. He is no doubt better than a mid-level WR2. If he falls that far be sure to pick him up. You can even reach as high as the top 12 for Benjamin. There is a great chance he has a monster season. He's just too big and too talented not to. Especially now that he has a healthy Newton and legitimate weapons surrounding him to draw some attention.

Peyton Manning says the 'sky is the limit' for Broncos RB C.J. Anderson

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 04:14 PM PDT

Broncos' future Hall of Fame quarterback made it a point to build up running back C.J. Anderson when asked about the offense. Anderson had a breakout season in the second half of 2014. It seems like Manning expects that to continue right into 2015. quot;I'm learning, I'm learning about the requirements of me," Manning said. "I'm learning how [tight end] Owen Daniels runs his routes, running back C.J. [Anderson] obviously getting more repetitions with him. C.J. of course, if you talk to him you think he's about a 12-year veteran starter and he's only started six games. I'm getting a ton of reps with him, and the sky is the limit for him, I will say that ... But [overall], what we do scheme-wise is kind of between us." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is encouraging for Anderson. There has been a lot of skepticism surrounding him this offseason. I feel like most people have underrated or overhyped Anderson as a fantasy back. You can't just discount Montee Ball or even Ronnie Hillman. Still, as of now Anderson is the man to beat for the starting job. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I like Anderson as a high-end RB2, nevertheless, he may go earlier than that.

Patriots cut TE Tim Wright

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 04:03 PM PDT

The Patriots raised some eyebrows last season when they traded Tom Brady's most reliable O-lineman Logan Mankins for Buccaneers tight end Tim Wright. The trade didn't really work out for either team. Wright did very little for the Pats and the Bucs had one of the worst O-lines in the league. With that said, the Pats did win the Super Bowl while the Bucs picked first overall in the draft. Today the Patriots released Tim Wright and have moved on from the disappointing TE. FANTASY ANALYSIS: What this tells me is perhaps troubled TE Fred Davis has more in the tank than expected. Gronk was always going to be Gronk so that really doesn't matter, but Davis could surprise people. I'm officially putting him on sleeper watch. Right now he's just a guy to watch, however, he has the potential to become a late-round flier. He would certainly be a boom-or-bust, high-risk/high-reward candidate.

Packers WR Jordy Nelson is right on schedule with his recovery

Posted: 11 Jun 2015 03:44 PM PDT

Packers' top receiver Jordy Nelson had an unknown procedure this offseason, which is widely believed to be a hip surgery. Nelson says he had a recovery plan and is right on schedule with it. He is getting mentally prepared and fully intends to be ready for training camp. quot; We're right where we want to be," Nelson said. "We set a plan at the beginning, and we're hitting every target. We feel good and like I said a couple of weeks ago, we'll be ready to go by training camp. The important stuff is training camp, so it's nice to get the script [of the plays] and be out there and take the mental reps and help the young guys out. So I'll be ready and sharp mentally and by the time training camp comes we'll be ready to go." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Nelson's current ADP has him the 11th WR off the board. I love him right where he is. There are concerns with Nelson. Aside from his own health, there is also his QBs health and the emergence of other young targets like Davante Adams and Richard Rodgers. Still if you can get Aaron Rodgers right hand man as a low-end WR1 or even a WR2, you can't beat that value. Assuming everyone is healthy, he's among the best fantasy receivers in the league.
