Broncos RB C.J. Anderson weighs 22 lbs less at OTAs this year than he did last year

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 03:07 AM PDT

C.J. Anderson was a gem off the waiver wire last season. However, when he got to OTAs he weighed 243 pounds and was described as "chubby". This season he enters OTAs at just 221 pounds, which is less than he weighed in season late last year. Anderson is in the best shape of his life and plans to continue this trend. quot; It's my job to make the line look right with the right cuts," Anderson said. "Even this summer, I am going to lose even a little more weight, and get a little leaner. Sure I miss the burgers, the ice cream. Sometimes it tastes like I am eating the same thing every day, but I know what it's going to do for me and the team in the long run." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's very good to see Anderson determined to and motivated this offseason. It's very encouraging for his fantasy value. I've been on record saying that he is being overdrafted and have been skeptical about the Broncos' backfield. This actually does sway me a bit. However, there are still concerns of Denver using a bit of a committee approach with Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman in the mix. I still don't love Anderson but I'm beginning to come around a bit.

Jaguars WR Allen Robinson participating in OTAs

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 02:49 AM PDT

Jaguars' 2014 second-round pick Allen Robinson was sidelined for seven months with a foot injury. He was finally back on the field Monday. Robinson participated in individual drills and was excited to be back. quot;Just getting back out there with the guys and running routes was real fun today," Robinson said. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Jags are building a very talented young offense and Robinson is the centerpiece. Robinson will become a fantasy star. I would not be surprised if he eventually develops into a WR1. This season, he should be drafted as WR3 and he will outperform his expectations. This kid was as NFL ready and polished as any receiver in his draft. With great hands and excellent route running, he'll be a very reliable wideout for his young QB.

Lions TE Joseph Fauria will not participate in OTAs

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 02:35 AM PDT

Tight end Joseph Fauria is one of the Lions' top red zone threats. His 2014 season was derailed when he seriously injured his ankle last September attempting to house train his puppy. The injury hampered him all season and would eventually end his season prematurely. While he avoided surgery, he will not be able to participate at OTAs. He hopes to be ready for camp. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Fauria is the definition of a touchdown-or-bust fantasy option. In 2013, he had 18 catches for 207 yards and seven TDs. Assuming he's healthy, he'll likely play the same role. Eric Ebron is a glorified receiver, Brandon Pettigrew has become a glorified lineman and Fauria is the red zone threat. All three TEs have their role in the offense. With that said, he's really only a desperation plug-in off the waiver wire.

Cardinals RB David Johnson is currently fifth on the depth chart

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 02:04 AM PDT

Cardinals' rookie David Johnson is currently the No. 5 running back in Arizona. He's currently behind Andre Ellington, Stepfan Taylor, Marion Grice and Kerwynn Williams. Head coach Bruce Arians had a blunt take on the whole situation saying, "He ain't getting sh-- yet." FANTASY ANALYSIS: While I get the whole, make the rookie earn it thing, this is not a sign of things to come. Arians has done this with rookies in the past and Johnson will climb up the depth chart. How high he climbs remains to be seen. Ellington is still the back to own in Arizona, however, injuries are a major concern. If Ellington does get hurt, Johnson could become a feature-back. The rest of the RB corps has proven to not be overly productive.

Titans RB Bishop Sankey working on 'just being in the right place' this offseason

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 11:09 PM PDT

Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt has said the best way for running back Bishop Sankey to earn more touches is by quot;just being in the right place". Sankey had a hard time being disciplined last season and staying behind his blocks. He went into more detail when discussing the topic. "We each have a track, depending on which run play it is," Sankey said. "Say we run a power play, our ending point will be real specific. If we have an outside zone play, our tracks are real specific up to the point where we get the ball. When we get the ball, it's important for us to stay disciplined and true to the blocking. Each run play is drawn up and blocked up a specific way. It's really only going to work if we stay in sync with the line in front of us blocking and also, when the fullback is in there, we have to stay tight to his hip and sync with him as well." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Honestly, I'm really not sure what to make of the Titans' offense yet. Obviously it isn't great and I'm not a big fan of Marcus Mariota. There are just so many question marks top-to-bottom. They are really relying on potential and upside. Right now if I have to draft a Titans' RB, I'm going with rookie David Cobb. That could very well change after watching them in pads and in preseason games.

Cowboys RBs coach Gary Brown says RB Darren McFadden looks 'tremendous' at OTAs

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 10:32 PM PDT

Underachieving former Raiders running back Darren McFadden signed with the Cowboys this offseason with hopes of winning the starting job and reviving his career. The Cowboys' running backs coach Gary Brown has been very impressed with what he's seen thus far. quot;He wants to prove that he wasn't the bust that people are talking about," said Brown. "We are going to give him the opportunity to prove that. I like what I see. He works hard. He had tremendous burst, tremendous speed. I can't wait to see him in pads." FANTASY ANALYSIS: The only thing tremendous about McFadden is the fact that he's a tremendously bad fantasy pick. The guy can't stay healthy, is clearly declining and is falling behind Joseph Randle at OTAs. Regardless of how good the offensive line may be, that doesn't make up for his diminished talent. After dealing with a myriad of injuries throughout his college and pro career, his body has broken down and his upside was never met. Even if he somehow won the starting job, odds are he won't last long anyway.

49ers RB Kendall Hunter is 'coming along great'

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 10:16 PM PDT

49ers complementary back Kendall Hunter is coming off a torn ACL. With Frank Gore now with the Colts, Hunter is a candidate to see more touches. San Francisco's new head coach Jim Tomsula says that Hunter is pretty much fully recovered from the knee injury. "Kendall, he's coming along great," Tomsula said. "I think we all have strong feelings for Kendall. He is, you see him out there moving. He's moving around great. But we definitely have a rep count on him. There's a rep count on all of those guys. You've got to keep him corralled. But he's moving around really quick." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is great news for Hunter. There are always concerns when coming off an ACL. If he's even close to where Tomsula makes him sound, he should be fine come Week 1. With that said, he's still not a great fantasy option. Carlos Hyde is the man to own in San Fran, behind him could be Hunter or rookie Mike Davis. However, I want nothing to do with a declining, injury prone Reggie Bush.

Giants TE Larry Donnell has Achilles' tendinitis in his left foot

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 09:54 PM PDT

The Giants' top tight end Larry Donnell was seen in a walking boot on his left foot on Monday. Head coach Tom Coughlin later explained that Donnell was suffering from Achilles' tendinitis. There is no timetable yet for his return. However, it is not expected to be overly serious to the point that it will impact his fantasy season. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Donnell had a hot start to the season last year but cooled down considerably. Much of his fantasy spike was due to a Week 4, three touchdown Thursday Night Football performance. Unfortunately, those three TDs were half of his season total. He has been working on his blocking and ball security this season so he can earn more opportunities. If healthy he has a shot to really breakout in the Giants' offense this season. His value isn't bad as his ADP has him being drafted as the TE23.

Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr dealing with sore hamstrings

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 09:19 PM PDT

Last season, Giants' wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr missed the first-four games of the season with a hamstring injury before absolutely exploding. Beckham is now dealing with soreness in his hamstrings at OTAs. He did not participate on Monday. The team insists it is not the same injury that sidelined him in 2014. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Hearing Beckham and hamstrings certainly raises an eyebrow. Last year was one thing but he now has the highest ADP in all of fantasy football. Beckham owners cannot afford to have him go down this season. The injury does not appear to be serious, however, it is definitely worth monitoring. Make sure this guy is healthy before you invest so much in him. Of course "The Madden Curse" is always looming too. Just throwing that out there.

Falcons HC Dan Quinn has high praise for RB Devonta Freeman

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 08:50 PM PDT

While the Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said that both Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman were "absolutely battling for it", referring to the starting job, he really gushed about Freeman. "I love the competitive attitude Devonta brings," Quinn said. "To me, when you're having one of the best offseasons you've ever had, he's one of the guys like, 'I'm here, coach. I'm ready.' He wants to be the first to do everything, and that tells you what the competitor is. I can't wait to watch him work. He doesn't back down from anything. That's one of things I love about Devonta the most. He just, every challenge, 'Yep. I'm ready for the next one.' That's one of the things I really do admire about him and his game hellip; He's got terrific hands coming out of the backfield. What a weapon that can be. He runs good routes and has really good hands." FANTASY ANALYSIS: The RB1 job is still very much up in the air for Atlanta. Freeman no doubt has the edge in PPR leagues, however, Coleman could emerge as the top rusher. Nonetheless, I was much higher on Freeman than Coleman coming out of college and I would draft him first in all fantasy leagues as of now. It is crucial to closely monitor this battle right up until your draft. A split-back system is also a strong possibility. The edge now goes to Freeman but that could change quickly.

Panthers QB Cam Newton close to signing a long-term deal

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 08:30 PM PDT

The Panthers and their quarterback Cam Newton are reportedly on the verge of a five-year extension that will run through 2020. The deal is expected to be worth more than $100 million. The guaranteed money is expected to be in the area of $48 million. Carolina will be locking up their franchise QB in the very near future. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is risky as Newton still has plenty to prove. With that said, it's a risk the Panthers have to take. Newton is growing into a leader and is as physically gifted as any quarterback in the league. He suffered through injuries last season and his fantasy stock took a tumble. With his ankle and back now considered back to full strength he should have a bounce back season. His current ADP has his as the No. 4 QB. I would have him outside of the top five, however, he's still a QB1.

Ravens WR DeAndre Carter compared to a 'young Randall Cobb' by Steve Smith Sr

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 07:57 PM PDT

The Ravens signed undrafted free agent DeAndre Carter not long after the draft. He went undrafted thanks to his 5-foot-8, 185-pound frame. The former Sacramento State wideout has thoroughly impressed both his head coach John Harbaugh and veteran receiver Steve Smith. I Like (that) he's hungry, quot; Smith said. "I just love his attitude. I see a young Randall Cobb in him." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Carter just became a player to watch, particularly in dynasty leagues. This kid may be small but apparently he has a ton of heart. He scored 18 touchdowns last season and 15 the year before. Carter also returned kicks and punts in college. Harbaugh praised him for his return ability last week. The fact that he can contribute on special teams drastically improves his likelihood of securing a roster spot.

Daily Dr. Roto: Marrying Cam

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 07:39 PM PDT

Dr. Roto admits that he is not a fan of Cam Newton or the Panthers'' willingness to reportedly give him a nine-figure contract. But he understands the one simple reason why Carolina is committing to Cam.

Seahawks RB Christine Michael will get his opportunity with RB Robert Turbin sidelined

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 06:37 PM PDT

The Seahawks' backup running back Robert Turbin will be sidelined through the majority and possibly all of the preseason while recovering from hip surgery. This opens the door for Christine Michael to be the feature-back in Seattle. Starting running back Marshawn Lynch does not attend voluntary workouts and is seldom used in both training camp and preseason. Head coach Pete Carroll has made it clear that Michael will get his shot. "This is a great time for him to settle in and get all the featured reps,'' Carroll said. "He'll have a camp that will call on him to take charge and he'll get all of the preseason work." FANTASY ANALYSIS: The good news in Michael will at least get a shot to show what he's got. On the other hand, he also has a chance to expose himself. I've never been a fan of Michael. I always thought Turbin was better and I still do. Assuming he's at full health for the regular season, I still believe Turbin will emerge as the more effective back. Then of course you have Beast Mode eating up the majority of the carries anyway. Right now I'd say Michael is not draft worthy. Nonetheless, we will all get to see what he has to offer in the coming months and that could change.

Redskins TE Jordan Reed has knee surgery

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 05:48 PM PDT

The Redskins oft-injured tight end Jordan Reed is injured again. According to head coach Jay Gruden, Reed had a "little procedure" on his knee. The banged up TE had been complaining of knee soreness last week. He is still expected to be ready for training camp. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Reed has great upside, however, his injury issues have become too overwhelming to overlook at this point. His ADP currently has him ranked as the TE16. Inexplicably, that is one spot ahead of Antonio Gates. At this point he should be bumped back to a TE3. He just can't be depended on anymore. We have seen him play well, unfortunately, we've seen him get hurt far more often. Niles Paul may be the tight end to own in Washington.

Titans WR Justin Hunter says 'I've got to get it going ... I've got to improve'

Posted: 01 Jun 2015 12:41 PM PDT

Physically, Titans wideout Justin Hunter is one of the most explosive players in the league. However, his production has not come close to matching his athleticism. Hunter appears to understand how crucial this season is to his future in the NFL. quot;I've got to get it going," Hunter said after a mini-camp practice this week. "Going into my third year, I've got to improve. I can't falter in any part of my game … I wouldn't say I'm pleased or disappointed. I could have done a lot of things better. I know I'm capable of doing better." The Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt also weighed in on Hunter's situation saying, "At some point, you either get it or you won't be in this league anymore. That's the natural order of the NFL." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Hunter has a ton of upside, nonetheless, we continue to see athletic receivers that aren't great "wide receivers" continue to fail in the NFL. The fact that he has no decent quarterback and no other weapons to draw significant attention away doesn't help either. His ADP has dropped him all the way down to the WR72. While I'm not really a fan, he does have value that late. I mean that's only two spots ahead of DeAndre Smelter. Smelter is a 49ers rookie that tore his ACL in December and may not play this season.
