Jaguars WR Allen Robinson will join team drills next week Posted: 06 Jun 2015 09:45 PM PDT Allen Robinson has been recovering from a stress fracture in his foot that he suffered last November. To this point he has only participated in individual drills. He's set to join his teammates in 11-on-11 drills on Monday. He has already impressed his coaches and is excited to participate in team drills. "Good to be back ndash; that's the main thing," Robinson said. "I wanted to get back out there and play fast." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Robinson is a star in the making. The Jaguars are building a talented young offense and Robinson is their most valuable weapon. I ranked Robinson as the fifth-best receiver in his draft class, which isn't bad considering the guys ranked ahead of him are Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Kelvin Benjamin and Brandin Cooks. That projects him to be better than WRs like Sammy Watkins and teammate Marqise Lee. His current ADP has him being drafted as the WR25. He is solid value there, and I have a feeling he'll go significantly later than that in most redrafts. |

Giants QB Eli Manning better understands the offensive system entering his second year in it Posted: 06 Jun 2015 09:21 PM PDT Giants' two time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning had his struggles early last season in new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system. He had previously been in the same system his entire career. By the year's end it had become clear that he was much more comfortable in the system. He finds himself even more adapted to the system this offseason. "This year, I understand the concepts," Manning said. "I'm still working on it, but I'm concentrating on the footwork and the mechanics and the timing of everything. It was great to have that this year and kind of get back to the basics of everything. I feel comfortable, I feel real good right now." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's only natural that he would feel more comfortable after a year of experience. His current ADP has him ranked as the 18th quarterback coming off the board. That is absolutely ridiculous. Manning will be a low-end QB1 this season. So if you can get him as your QB2, do not hesitate to do so. He finished 10th among fantasy QBs last season and is only poised to improve in 2015. |
49ers RB Carlos Hyde returns to practice Posted: 06 Jun 2015 09:01 PM PDT The 49ers received yet another scare when Carlos Hyde was sidelined with an undisclosed leg injury. The team can ill afford to lose any more players after a nightmarish offseason plagued by a slew of unexpected retirements. Hyde is back at practice and quot;looked fine". He's believed to be fully recovered from his leg strain. He's projected to be the RB1 in San Francisco this season. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Hyde has the potential to be a breakout player of the year candidate. He will be the lead back in San Fran and could have a monster season. It's been a long-time since a RB not named Frank Gore led the team in carries. Losing starting right tackle Anthony Davis to yet another untimely retirement does not help. Nonetheless, it's not insurmountable for a running back to overcome. Hyde is currently being drafted as an RB2, which is right where he belongs. |
Full disclosure: Why did NFL squash Romo event? Posted: 06 Jun 2015 08:39 PM PDT |
Browns HC Mike Pettine praises WR Brian Hartline Posted: 06 Jun 2015 08:33 PM PDT Newly acquired Browns' wide receiver Brian Hartline is coming off a miserable 39 catch, 474 yard season in Miami. He had caught over 70 receptions and hit the century mark in each of the two previous seasons. His new head coach Mike Pettine had high praise of the six-year veteran saying, "All he does is get open and catch the ball." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Hartline could very well emerge as the go-to guy in Cleveland. They certainly don't have any other better options. Unless of course you believe in Dwayne Bowe, which I most certainly do not. Andrew Hawkins and Travis Benjamin have shown flashes but they're far from sure things. I wouldn't draft any Browns' receivers or any Browns in general for that matter, however, if you insist upon doing so, Hartline may be your safest bet. |
Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is 'as advertised' Posted: 06 Jun 2015 08:04 PM PDT Dolphins' first-round pick DeVante Parker recently underwent foot surgery. However, he had been working on "cleaning up his route running" prior to the procedure according to quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill went on to praise Parker and it sounds like his route running may be his only imperfection. He said that Parker has come "as advertised. He can catch it with a defender on his back, can track it really well, can make a tough catch, can high point it in the red zone." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This comes as no surprise. Parker is a superstar in the making and was one of the two best receivers in this year's draft. Don't be shocked if he emerges as the top rookie fantasy receiver this season. Parker is more than capable of moving the chains with his big body as well as beating defenders over the top. As you heard from Tannehill, Parker has very few flaws in his game. The only thing you need to worry about is his foot injury. |
Rams QB Nick Foles and WR Kenny Britt have great chemistry Posted: 06 Jun 2015 07:41 PM PDT Rams' new starting quarterback Nick Foles is acclimating himself to the offense and building a rapport with his teammate. He has seemed to click particularly well with wide receiver Kenny Britt right off the bat. "Our chemistry has been great since Day 1," Britt said. "He's not going to throw a fastball when you're five yards down the field. He has a touch, he has a sense of when to put a little bit of touch on it, and when to throw it in there with his fastball. But he can throw it all." FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is encouraging news for Britt's fantasy value. The WR1 job is wide open in St. Louis. Brian Quick is coming off shoulder surgery and former West Virginia stars Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey have failed to impress thus far. It is pretty much a coin flip who will emerge as the top wideout. Perhaps Britt can emerge if he and Foles chemistry is as good as he claims. Personally, I believe Bailey is the most talented WR on the roster but that hasn't resulted in fantasy production. At least not yet. |
Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is 'on the first team' Posted: 06 Jun 2015 07:17 PM PDT Buccaneers' running back Doug Martin is practicing with the first team in Tampa Bay. This is despite back-to-back subpar seasons and after the team declined to pick up the backs fifth-year option. There has been much speculation this offseason about who will be the top back in Tampa. Head coach Lovie Smith made it pretty clear that as of now, Martin is the man. "He's on the first team like he has always been," Smith said. "He's one of our guys, he's our running back. He's showing up and he is getting good work. I think it is just as simple as that." FANTASY ANALYSIS: I'm still not buying into Martin. The muscle Hamster just hasn't been the same since his breakout rookie campaign. If I'm investing in a Bucs RB, I'm going with second-year back Charles Sims. You can make a case for either guy in standard leagues, however, Sims has a lot more PPR value. Go with the younger back with higher upside. Martin just hasn't produced enough to warrant drafting ahead of Sims. According to their ADPs, the majority of fantasy owners agree. |
Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon will contribute this season Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:54 PM PDT With Adrian Peterson back with the Vikings, backup Jerick McKinnon's role is up in the air at best. His offensive coordinator Norval Turner made it clear that McKinnon will still see the field and contribute this season. "Jerick, really looks faster than a year ago, because he's real confident in what he's doing. He's 100% healthy and he's flying around. He really gives you a nice dimension, a changeup," Turner said. "Like I said, we've got a lot of guys that I think are going to be able to contribute. Certain guys are going to get to contribute more than others and I'd assume Adrian would be that guy who'd get to contribute more than others. If you're going to be a really good offensive football team, you've got to use all of the guys you have." FANTASY ANALYSIS: While Peterson returning is devastating to McKinnon's fantasy value, at least he appears to be entrenched as the RB2 in Minnesota. He is definitely the handcuff for Peterson should he get injured or be forced to miss time for any reason. The issue is that Peterson rarely comes off the field. So while AP is suiting up, McKinnon has little value, regardless of what Turner says. McKinnon will be a scarcely used change of pace back. |
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer to participate in 11-on-11 drills next week Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:33 PM PDT Cardinals' quarterback Carson Palmer is still recovering from ACL surgery. While he's not all the way back yet, he'll take a big step in the right direction next week. According to head coach Bruce Arians, he will be participating in 11-on-11 drills at OTAs next week. quot; He'll get some (11-on-11) work next week," Arians said. "We had some no huddle (Wednesday). We'll do some more of that, depending upon who's on defense." FANTASY ANALYSIS: When healthy, Palmer is always a sneaky good fantasy pick. He was playing very well last season before once again tearing his ACL. Palmer is currently being drafted as the 28th QB off the board. He's an absolute steal that late. If he's sitting around late in your draft, he's well worth the risk. The oft injured quarterback has QB2 upside when healthy. |
49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has a clearly made alterations to his delivery Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:18 PM PDT 49ers' starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick worked with quarterbacks coach and biomechanics devotee Dennis Gile this offseason. Gile altered Kapernick's delivery to help improve his accuracy. Everyone who has seen Kaepernick at OTAs has seen significant alterations. quot; It's the first thing everyone sees -- how fast the ball comes out of his hand," Gile said. "It's not about how hard you can throw it or how fast you can get rid of it. It's how quickly he can release it while still being relaxed." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's great that Kaep is working hard to improve his game. Nevertheless, I still have a hard time trusting him. It doesn't help that his weapons are subpar and his offensive line is in shambles. Until I see him be successful on the field, I'm not buying Kaepernick is a fantasy QB1. He has the upside, but I really don't view him as anything more than a low-end QB2. His current ADP has him right in that range as the QB19. |
Report: Raiders WR Amari Cooper is the 'real deal' Posted: 06 Jun 2015 06:00 PM PDT Raiders' first-round pick Amari Cooper has reportedly looked great at OTAs. According to a team source Cooper looks like a star in the making. He was described as, quot;Real deal. Almost no mental errors. Runs great routes, consistent route runner." FANTASY ANALYSIS: I had very few doubts about Cooper beforehand but this just further cements my beliefs. He was the best receiver in the draft and may be the first-round pick that finally turns things around for the Raiders' offense. Cooper will be the first rookie wideout drafted in most fantasy drafts and rightfully so. The only thing that may be holding him back is his situation. The Raiders offense is still less than stellar and Derek Carr is clearly not fully developed as an NFL quarterback. I have DeVante Parker as my top fantasy rookie WR but Cooper is closing the gap thanks to Parker's recent foot surgery. |
Saints RB Mark Ingram still sidelined with foot and ankle injuries Posted: 06 Jun 2015 05:43 PM PDT Saints' starting running back Mark Ingram is once again sidelined with foot and ankle injuries. The injuries are not believed to be serious. Still, he has had injury issues in the past and this could linger. Head coach Sean Payton has downplayed the situation. "We've just sat him," Payton said. "There's nothing significant. It's this time of the year where we're smart about what we're doing." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Ingram is the clear-cut feature back in New Orleans this season as long as he's healthy. This injury should not impact his fantasy value whatsoever. With that said, if he does miss time this season, Khiry Robinson will get his carries. C.J. Spiller's role will remain the same regardless of Ingram's health. He does not have the ability to run between the tackles or handle a heavy workload. Continue monitoring this situation, but for now stick with Ingram. |
