Jordan Reed's chances of playing today seem much better than the 50-50 designation that comes with his quot;questionable" tag on the injury report. According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, Reed will play versus the Texans barring a pregame setback with his injured thumb. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It doesn't sound like you need to worry much about Reed's thumb. Now, concussions are a different issue with him, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. The Texans don't project to be the friendliest defense for tight ends, but Reed is still a TE1. He should be a popular target of Robert Griffin III in Washington's pass-heavy offense.

San Diego Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken is reporting Antonio Gates has been added to the injury report after Saturday practice, citing a tweaked hamstring injury. It's uncertain whether Gates will be ready to go in the Chargers' Monday night debut, but he's been officially slapped with the quot;questionable" tag, which means he's currently 50/50 to play against the Cardinals. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Hopefully there are more updates on Gates' status Sunday morning. This is a tricky one for fantasy football. If Gates becomes a game-time decision and you leave him in your TE slot, you jeopardize getting fat zero in the box score if he's ruled out on Monday. Unless you like to gamble, it may be better to leave Gates on the bench and play another TE option. If Gates can't go, expect Ladarius Green to get a bump.

And this story on Andre Ellington takes another hard turn in the opposite direction. Following Friday's reports that Ellington could miss a month or more due to a foot injury, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Saturday he is optimistic that his dynamic runner will play Monday night versus the Chargers. He is considered a game-time decision. Ellington actually went through limited practice today after not practicing at all Friday. According to Cardinals reporter Mike Jurecki, Ellington consulted with three foot and ankle specialists, all of whom said he does not need surgery right now. He is reportedly dealing with some sort of muscle injury in his left foot. FANTASY ANALYSIS: While it's nice to hear that Ellington might be active this week, fantasy owners are now caught in a conundrum: Do they play it safe and put Ellington on their bench or keep him in their lineup and hope that he plays Monday night? If you own the Clemson product, hopefully you have already picked up Jonathan Dwyer; he is the safety net here. If I owned Ellington, I'm benching him regardless. There's no way you can expect him to be 100 percent or handle 20-plus touches. The Chargers also have a pretty decent run defense. If he is active, neither he nor Dwyer are fantasy options as Arizona should cycle three RBs, Stepfan Taylor included. If Ellington is inactive, Dwyer is a uninteresting flex play. Really, I would just try to avoid this situation all together in Week 1. There is too much we don't know about this backfield right now, and because this game is on Monday, your team will likely get burned if you guess incorrectly here.

Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser is reporting WR Cecil Shorts has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He missed most of preseason due to hamstring injury that he aggravated before Thursday's practice. He missed practice on Friday. Shorts was projected to be Jacksonville's No. 1 receiving option but has had a history of injury issues, and this year doesn't appear to be any different. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Make sure to get Shorts out of your lineups. He will be replaced by Allen Hurns, Marqise Lee, and Allen Robinson, who is also battling an injury and is probable heading into Sunday. The Jaguars are still being led by QB Chad Henne, which caps their upside, but it's without question that these WRs will see plenty of targets in garbage time against the Eagles which makes them more than adequate for fantasy purposes. Hurns and Lee both played well in preseason and will likely be the biggest beneficiaries of Shorts being out.
