UPDATE: Browns RB Ben Tate will 'likely' miss 2-4 weeks with knee sprain

Posted: 10 Sep 2014 07:06 AM PDT

Tate may miss 2 to 4 weeks with a knee sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Tate aggravated the injury in Sunday's game versus the Steelers. In Tate's absence, Browns RB Terrance West took 16 carries for over 100 yards, and RB Isaiah Crowell scored two red zone touchdowns. FANTASY ANALYSIS: That cleared up quickly. Tate's checkered injury history hurt his value going into this season, and now has come back to bite his owners. West should be slotted in as a borderline RB2/Flex play for this Sunday's matchup agains the Saints. Meanwhile, Crowell, an interesting physical talent, is a reasonable waiver pickup, but should only be started by fantasy owners desperate at the RB position. Expect West to take the bulk of the carries, with Crowell seeing goal-line and short-yardage work.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington's foot injury 'can't get worse' from playing

Posted: 10 Sep 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Ellington's foot injury cannot be made worse from playing on it. Ellington has a partially torn peroneus longus, a foot muscle that assists in flexing the foot. Playing with the injury on Monday Night Football, Ellington took 18 touches for 80 total yards. Ellington was in a walking boot after the game to assist with the pain. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's good to know that Ellington's injury can't be aggravated, and that the only issue will be his ability to play through the discomfort. The fact that he was able to handle 18 touches is encouraging, and 80 total yards isn't a bad performance. It looks like this is an issue Ellington will have to deal with for the next several weeks, but if Monday night's game is any indication, he'll be able to grind out reasonable fantasy performances in spite of it. In Week 2 Ellington will face a Giants defense that allowed a combined 124 yards and one touchdown to Lions RBs in the season opener.

Browns RB Ben Tate says knee injury is 'nothing that serious'

Posted: 10 Sep 2014 06:48 AM PDT

Following Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Tate said on Twitter that the knee injury that took him off the field is quot;nothing that serious." The Browns have revealed very little about Tate's status. The knee injury was a pre-existing issue that had limited Tate's participation in practice leading up to Week 1. Tate also has a history of missed games due to injury, including five games in 2012 and two in 2013. In Tate's absence, RB Terrance West took 16 carries for over 100 yards, and RB Isaiah Crowell took five carries for 32 yards and two red zone touchdowns. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is a very murky situation as of Wednesday morning. If Tate is able to go in Week 2, he'll probably see a good share of the carries, with West getting a fair portion as well. Given how well Crowell did with the red zone work, he may continue to get the short-yardage go-ahead. West should be rostered in standard leagues through the season because of his value as a handcuff, but until we know more about Tate's injury status, Crowell is a somewhat risky waiver pickup. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the presence of three serviceable RBs in the Cleveland lineup limits the value of any individual player.
