Falcons WR Julio Jones posts 161 receiving yards, two TDs in win Posted: 18 Sep 2014 09:26 PM PDT With Falcons WR Roddy White sitting out due to a hamstring injury, Julio Jones became Matt Ryan's primary target on Thursday night. In the most dominant performance by any WR this season, Jones was able to post nine receptions for 161 yards and two TDs. FANTASY ANALYSIS: There isn't much else to say. Jones is clearly the WR1 you drafted him to be and is matchup-proof. It is worth noting, however, that any time White misses game action, it clearly has a positive effect on Julio's numbers. |

Thursday Night Football injury report: Falcons WR Roddy White, Buccaneers RB Doug Martin inactive Posted: 18 Sep 2014 04:58 PM PDT Roddy White and Doug Martin are officially inactive for tonight's clash between the Falcons and Buccaneers. White didn't practice all week due to a hamstring injury. Martin did practice on Monday and Tuesday, but he has still not recovered from the knee injury he suffered in Week 1 and that forced him to miss Week 2. Bobby Rainey will fill in once against for Martin. He ran for 144 yards on 22 carries against the Rams on Sunday. Harry Douglas will move into Atlanta's starting lineup in place of White. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Rainey is a worthy RB2 against the Falcons' awful defense. They rank 26th in rush defense and are even worse against the pass. While the Bucs may find themselves trailing early in this game, don't expect them to go away from Rainey. They will use him to burn the clock and try to keep Atlanta's explosive offensive on the sidelines. Plus, Rainey is sufficient as a receiver out of the backfield. The Falcons always love playing on the fast track in the Georgia Dome, and the Bucs shouldn't offer much resistance through the air. Julio Jones is likely to dominate, and Harry Douglas is a nifty WR3 with White out. |

Despite sprained ankle, Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles practices Thursday Posted: 18 Sep 2014 04:19 PM PDT The early reports on Jamaal Charles' injury from Week 2 stated that he had a high ankle sprain. The team basically confirmed as much Monday. Maybe Andy Reid misspoke, because Charles actually practiced Thursday. He was officially limited, but Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher said Charles quot;looked OK to me." FANTASY ANALYSIS: If Charles had a true high ankle sprain, it just doesn't seem possible that he would be on a practicing field and impressing knowledgeable eyes just four days after sustaining the injury. He should still be considered very questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Those who added Knile Davis shouldn't freak out just yet. If I had to bet on this situation, I'd say that Davis gets a full workload against Miami while Charles rests up. But we'll see where Kansas City's franchise player is at during Friday's practice. |
Falcons WR Roddy White not expected to be active tonight Posted: 18 Sep 2014 03:41 PM PDT CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora tweeted Thursday afternoon that he doesn't expect Falcons wide receiver Roddy White to be active tonight against the Buccaneers due to his hamstring injury. White didn't practice this week, but beat reports presented no concern that he would miss Week 3, and head coach Mike Smith said the 10-year veteran didn't need to practice in order to play. We will know White's official status when the inactives list for this game becomes public in about an hour. FANTASY ANALYSIS: What do these practice reports and beat writer opinions mean anymore? First, there was Doug Martin, who practiced all week, but it looks like he will spend tonight on the sidelines. His last-minute inactivation in Week 2 followed a very similar path. And now there's White. Granted, he didn't practice, but no one gave a sense before Thursday that there was even a chance he might not play play tonight. Alas, here we are. If White is out, Julio Jones is going to be a target monster, and Harry Douglas moves onto the WR3 radar. The Falcons are seemingly always more productive at home, and there's nothing scary about this matchup versus Tampa Bay. |
UPDATE: Buccaneers RB Doug Martin unlikely to play tonight Posted: 18 Sep 2014 11:10 AM PDT NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Doug Martin is unlikely to play tonight as he recovers from a knee sprain. Martin was able to practice this week but apparently is not healthy enough to make it through Thursday night's game against the Falcons. In Martin's absence, RB Bobby Rainey should carry most of the load for the Buccaneers. Prior to this development, it was expected that Martin would play some sort of role tonight. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Things were looking good for Martin just a few days ago, but the indication from Rapoport is that he won't be able to grind it out tonight. He'll probably work out before kickoff to test the knee, but even if he's able to play, it's apparent he won't be at 100 percent. Given how poorly he played in Week 1, when he sustained the initial injury, fantasy owners would have to be in a very desperate situation to consider starting Martin if he is surprisingly active. Meanwhile, Rainey, one of the top waiver pickups this week, is an excellent RB2 play against an Atlanta defense that allowed 167 total yards and three touchdowns to Rainey in Week 11 last season. |
