49ers TE Vernon Davis back at practice Wednesday

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 10:15 PM PDT

Vernon Davis returned to limited practice on Wednesday. Davis missed the 49ers' Week 3 matchup with an ankle injury. He'll try to return to the field in Week 4 for the 49ers' home showdown against the Eagles. Derek Carrier stepped in for Davis last Sunday and recorded just one catch for 23 yards. He'll likely get the go-ahead again if Davis has a setback this week. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Right now, it looks like Davis will be ready to play on Sunday, and that's good news for fantasy owners who are being squeezed hard at the TE position by injuries and bye weeks. If Davis is on the field and close to 100 percent, he should be slotted in as a top fantasy TE against the Eagles. Owners should keep a close eye on his practice schedule this week, however. It would be nice to see him get at least one full practice in before the game.

Texans RB Arian Foster remains limited in practice

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 05:25 PM PDT

Texans running back Arian Foster didn't play in Week 3 despite practicing in limited fashion every possible day leading up to the Giants game. If fantasy owners were hoping that clarity would shine through one week later, they will have to wait a little bit longer. Foster's status remains foggy after he went through limited practice again Wednesday. He continues to be nagged by a hamstring injury that he's had since the preseason. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Barring a sudden uptick in practice participation, Foster is looking like a game-time decision again. If you own him, you should have already added backup RB Alfred Blue. He got 13 carries in a start against the Giants and averaged 6 yards per. While this week's opponent, the Bills, has allowed only 83 rushing yards per game and zero rushing touchdowns, Blue is a decent flex option in this bye-heavy week. If Foster is out again, you can bet that Blue will see at least 15 touches. As for the injury-plagued fantasy stud, we'll check on him later this week and hope that something has changed.

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin, WR Vincent Jackson practicing in full

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 03:36 PM PDT

As the Buccaneers try to recover from their own demolition at the hands the Falcons, a couple of their top offensive weapons look good to go for Week 4. Running back Doug Martin and wide receiver Vincent Jackson are practicing fully this week despite some injury concerns. Martin didn't play in Atlanta due to a knee injury while Jackson suffered a slight wrist fracture in the early stages of the game. However, both are currently expected to play Sunday. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Of course, Martin practiced multiple times last week before he was ruled out shortly before Thursday's kickoff. We'll see if he experiences any setbacks this week, but everything seems pretty sunny right now. The wrist fracture, as slight as it might be, will obviously impact Jackson in some way. However, he will play through it. While he is off to a slow start -- 10 catches, 102 yards, one score so far -- I wouldn't sell low on him just yet because perhaps the Bucs' forced switch to quarterback Mike Glennon in place of the injured Josh McCown will kick-start Jackson. The new QB can't possibly be any worse than the old QB. Also, this is a favorable matchup for Jackson, facing Pittsburgh's fairly toothless and ailing defense. He is a fine WR2. Martin is more of a risk-reward RB2. The matchup for him isn't scary either, but he has a lot to prove after missing two games following his 16-yard performance in Week 1.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson has ankle injury, could be limited in practice

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 02:55 PM PDT

We're finding out again that the only thing that can stop Calvin Johnson is Calvin Johnson. The all-everything wideout suffered an ankle during the Lions' Week 3 win over the Packers. While Johnson was able to finish the game and said Wednesday he is not concerned about his ankle, he may have his practice snaps scaled back in order to keep him as healthy as possible for game days. The Lions travel to New York to face the Jets this weekend. FANTASY ANALYSIS: In the short-term, this sounds like an issue over which you shouldn't lose sleep. But Megatron has had his share of bumps and bruises in recent years. He was on the injury report for all but three weeks last season and ended up undergoing knee and finger surgeries in January. He was listed on the report with an ankle injury at various parts of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. But for now, he will continue to do what he does best. And this week's matchup against Jets has quot;big game" written all over it. Jordy Nelson gained more than 200 yards against them in Week 2. You shouldn't be shocked if Calvin does the same.

Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew expects to play this week

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 11:35 AM PDT

After missing two games following hand surgery, Maurice Jones-Drew has returned to practice and is ready to play Sunday. When asked if he will play Sunday against the Dolphins, he said, quot;Yeah, definitely, It's not up to me but I feel like I'll be able to play." If given clearance, he'll return to split carries with Darren McFadden. FANTASY ANALYSIS: He should be cleared, but it's difficult to know if the Raiders will ease him back into the fold with limited snaps. If Jones-Drew does play, he'll be no more than an RB3 option but one with RB2 upside. The Chiefs' Knile Davis was able to gash the Dolphins last week for 132 yards and a TD, which gives MJD's fantasy outlook a little hope.

Jets WR Eric Decker sits out practice

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 11:21 AM PDT

Jets WR Eric Decker missed practice Wednesday as he continues to battle a hamstring injury. This comes after he missed multiple days of practice last week with the injury and then aggravated it after only 12 snaps Monday. The Jets host the Lions in Week 4. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's a situation to monitor. Even if Decker does start, it's still a risky bet to put him in your starting lineup as he may have to pull himself out of the game again. By most reports, he'll be a game-time decision. It might be better to find a replacement for this week.
