Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said on Monday that the arrests were "routine," however immigrant rights advocates say there has been a clear uptick in enforcement activities. They believe Trump is following through on new deportation standards that put nearly every undocumented immigrant at greater risk.DACA recipient Daniel Ramirez Medina was arrested by immigration authorities last week. His lawyers said this could be the first time under President Donald Trump that a DACA recipient has been taken into immigration custody. ICE issued a statement this week saying officers took Ramirez into custody “based on his admitted gang affiliation and risk to public safety.” Ramirez’s attorney said his client “unequivocally denies” being in a gang and said ICE agents repeatedly pressured him while in custody to “falsely admit his affiliation.”An undocumented woman was detained by ICE shortly after she obtained a protective order shielding her from the man accused of abusing her. Legal experts are worried her arrest will dissuade other undocumented immigrants from reporting abuse.Immigrants went on strike Thursday in support of a grassroots movement that aimed to show the country what “a day without immigrants” looks like. Restaurants and other businesses closed their doors in Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Detroit, New York City, Washington D.C., Charlotte and other cities, in solidarity with the immigrant community.The Associated Press reported on Friday that the Trump administration at some point considered mobilizing as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to roundup unauthorized immigrants. However, the White House denied that the report was true. “100% false.
