Four teams named in possible pursuit of free agent WR Reggie Wayne Posted: 20 Jul 2015 12:41 PM PDT Free agent wideout Reggie Wayne recently made it clear that he intends to play this season. He also mentioned that teams have been calling. Today four teams were named as possible suitors for the 36-year-old receiver. The teams named were the Patriots, Ravens, Texans and Packers. There is no word yet on a favorite, however, it appears the teams have been narrowed down. Nonetheless, this does not guarantee Wayne will make a roster or even be offered a deal. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Wayne's fantasy value will be directly impacted by where he signs. Still, odds are he will be a limited contributor at best. It would be slightly shocking if he was even a viable flex option. He should not be drafted, nevertheless, he may be worth monitoring on the waiver wire, just in case. The long-time Colt has had a great career and is probably a future Hall of Famer, but this could be the end of the line for the former NFL and NCAA champion.
Chargers WR Stevie Johnson to be used 'in a variety of ways' Posted: 20 Jul 2015 12:01 PM PDT According to the Chargers' official website, the team plans to us wide receiver Stevie Johnson "in a variety of ways". He's expected to play both "outside and in the slot". Johnson is expected to see a lot of slot work early in the season due to the Antonio Gates suspension. He is expected to be a key contributor in Gates' absence. His quarterback Philip Rivers has nothing but good things to say about Johnson. "Stevie Johnson looks good," Rivers said. "He really came in and committed himself to learning (the system). You can just tell when he got here (he thought) 'I've got to dive in get this figured out because we play at a fast pace. We play a lot of no huddle.' So I've got nothing but positives to say about him so far." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Johnson is only two years removed from three straight 1,000 yard seasons. During that span he also averaged 79 receptions and 7.6 TDs per season. Now only 28 years old and with a competent quarterback, he is capable of being a fantasy contributor. However, his numbers may be inflated early in the season, so be sure not to buy high after a few games. Johnson's ADP has him being selected as the WR71. AT his current ADP he's a low-risk, high-reward option that you can likely select as late as you want.
Patriots QB Tom Brady is 'ticked off' Posted: 20 Jul 2015 01:57 AM PDT Tom Brady has a major chip on his shoulder heading into the season. Last time Brady and the Patriots wanted to prove a point was after "Spygate" surfaced. Brady led the Pats to a 16-0 season and broke the single season TD record. According Julian Edelman, Brady may be back to that mindset. quot; He's fired up -- we'll say that," Edelman said. "You don't want a mad Tom Brady, and he's a little ticked off." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Despite having a potential four-game suspension looming, he is set to have a monster year. Edelman is 100 percent right. An angry Brady is a nightmare for the rest of the league. I'm sure Bill Belichick is less than pleased as well. Thanks to his suspension, he's currently being drafted is the QB11. You may have to make do with him for a few weeks, nevertheless, he may be well worth the wait. Expect him to explode once returning from suspension.
Free agent TE Jemaine Gresham 'is now the NFL's most sought-after available tight end' Posted: 19 Jul 2015 09:35 PM PDT Former Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham "is now the NFL's most sought-after available tight end" according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. He is yet to sign with a team after undergoing back surgery this offseason. There is already a contract on the table from the Saints and he's set to meet with the Cardinals this week. Gresham has a few other meetings planned over the next two weeks and is expected to sign a deal before camp opens up. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The biggest fantasy concern with Gresham is how impacts the tight ends on whatever team he plays for. If he signs with the Saints, it could be bad news for all you Josh Hill enthusiasts. Gresham hasn't been nothing short of disappointing since being selected before Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham in the 2010 NFL Draft. Gresham has been plagued with questionable hands and wildly inconsistent production. His fantasy value will not be clear until he decides on a team. No matter where he lands, he will likely be drafted as a TE3.
Chargers QB Philip Rivers is not desperate to get a deal done Posted: 19 Jul 2015 06:54 PM PDT Philip Rivers is in the last season of his contract with the Chargers. He has said he wants to retire in San Diego, however, there have also been rumors that he will refuse to play for the team if they move to Los Angeles. Despite his contract situation looming large, he does not seem overly concerned with the matter. As a matter of fact, the only thing he really appears to be concerned with is preparing for the 2015 season. Now 33 years old, Rivers has to take some extra precautions with his body. quot;Troy Aikman is a guy who really told me this years ago," Rivers said. "He said as he got older, doing more and more core stuff for your back, for everything, to him was of utmost importance. I've done that maybe a little more so, just the stability there with the core. Other than that, I've done a similar routine. ... No drastic changes." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Rivers is a veteran and knows how to handle himself. He will not let his contract situation distract his team. Although there have been rumors of his desire to leave, Rivers has said nothing other than that he wants to remain with the Chargers. It would be a surprise to see him in another jersey. He is currently being drafted as the QB16. While Rivers may be getting older, he has more value than guys like Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Colin Kaepernick who all have similar ADPs.
