Saints WR Brandin Cooks resumes weight training and catching passes

Posted: 16 Jan 2015 07:21 PM PST

Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks of the New Orleans Saints has resumed catching passes and lifting weights after missing the last six games of the season with a thumb injury. Cooks finished his rookie season with 53 catches for 550 yards and three touchdowns. He proved to be a reliable target for QB Drew Brees and is looking forward to returning next season and making an even bigger impact. quot;I'm completely confident in my abilities and there's no question about it," the 5-foot-10 Cooks said. "This work that I'm going to put in during the offseason will be huge for next year. I can't wait to get out there and be a playmaker." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Cooks was having a solid rookie campaign prior to injuring his thumb. Luckily, surgery on a digit is a lot easier to come back from than surgery on a knee and isn't as worrisome as a concussion. The burner out of Oregon State should be the Saints' top receiver next season. Expect WR Marques Colston to be phased out a little more in 2015 and the pass-catching leaders in New Orleans to be Cooks, WR Kenny Stills and, of course, TE Jimmy Graham.
