Could Eagles QB Nick Foles be headed to the Rams?

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 10:43 PM PST

Reports out of St. Louis suggest that the Rams are interested in acquiring Eagles QB Nick Foles. After head coach Jeff Fischer admitted that there would be quot;competition at the quarterback position" and that it would be "with somebody that's not in the building right now," it appears as though the organization is looking beyond Sam Bradford as its only option under center. Foles has one year left on his rookie contract, but if Philly wants to deal him, St. Louis may be a willing buyer. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Foles' numbers dipped dramatically in his second year as Chip Kelly's lead signal-caller. Inherited by the former Oregon Ducks head coach, it wouldn't be stunning to see Foles dealt as the "genius" makes moves to reunite with Marcus Mariota. Foles' fantasy value as a Ram remains dependent on the offensive coordinator that the organization chooses to install.

Beat writer thinks Cowboys could consider RB Mark Ingram as a replacement for RB DeMarco Murray

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 08:00 PM PST

Bryan Broaddus of the Dallas Cowboys' official website speculates that soon-to-be free-agent running back Mark Ingram could be an option to replace running back DeMarco Murray, who is likely to seek greener pastures coming off of a career season. Ingram averaged 4.3 yards per carry on his way to 964 yards and nine touchdowns rushing in 2014. FANTASY ANALYSIS: While Murray will be the hottest running back name on the free-agent market, Ingram won't be far behind. The 5-foot-9, 215-pound bowling ball from Alabama showed that he can be a true feature back this season and is likely to get a nice contract, no matter where he lands this offseason.

Raiders re-sign S Charles Woodson to one-year deal

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 07:53 PM PST

Future Hall-of-Fame safety Charles Woodson has signed a one-year contract extension with the Oakland Raiders. Woodson, who was drafted by the Raiders in 1998, spent the first eight years of his career with the Silver and Black, then shipped off to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in 2006. He spent seven years with the Packers before returning to the Raiders in 2013. Despite being a little long in the tooth, Woodson still managed 113 tackles and four interceptions in 2014. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Raiders signing a 38 year-old safety doesn't make much sense. Woodson has had an amazing career, but he's not someone that I'd be looking to re-sign to my defense, if I wanted to win. From a fantasy perspective, Woodson will be worth consideration for as long as he can rack up the tackles.

49ers TE Vernon Davis wants Rob Chudzinski to be his offensive coordinator

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 03:22 PM PST

We're a little more than a month past Christmas, but 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is still wishing for presents. quot; All I want for Christmas... is to meet #robchudzinski #OC," Davis wrote Monday via Instagram. Chudzinski spent this season as an assistant coach for the Colts, but his contract expired today, and he can begin talking to possible employers Tuesday. The 49ers are reportedly interested in him for their vacancy at offensive coordinator. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This doesn't take a genius to figure out. Davis sees his disastrous 2014 stat line (26-245-2) and then sees an offensive-minded coach who's available and has had a ton of success with tight ends. Chud's star pupils include Antonio Gates, Kellen Winslow Jr., Greg Olsen and Jordan Cameron. But will Davis be on the Niners' roster come next season? He's owned more than $4 million in salary for 2015, and he certainly didn't earn it with his most recent performances. Davis, who turns 31 years old this Saturday, could very well be in the midst of a career decline. Perhaps even Chud won't be able to save him.

Report: 'Lots of NFL folks optimistic' Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon will be back this year

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 02:34 PM PST

Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon is still suspended indefinitely for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy. That's been the case since Nov. 1, 2013. But according to FOX Sports' Alex Marvez, quot;lots of NFL folks" are "optimistic" that Blackmon will be reinstated for the 2015 season. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Marvez adds that those "NFL folks" believe Blackmon is overcoming his issues with substance abuse, specifically alcohol and marijuana. But as Josh Gordon has proven, that's much easier said than done. The Jaguars want to have a firm word on Blackmon's 2015 status before the draft begins April 30. For that to happen, the Jags "need Blackmon to apply for reinstatement sometime within the next five weeks," according to team beat reporter Michael DiRocco. Then, per the NFL's substance abuse policy, league commissioner Roger Goodell can take up to 60 days to make a decision regarding a formal case for reinstatement. I know it's been a while, but Blackmon put together a pretty solid line in his 2012 rookie season (64-865-5) and averaged more than 100 yards per game during a short stint in 2013 before his latest suspension took hold. Blackmon has shown in the past that he's long on talent but short on good judgment. If he's (still) eligible to play by this summer, he's definitely worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts.

Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. says he played through 2 hamstring tears

Posted: 26 Jan 2015 01:40 PM PST

Odell Beckham Jr.'s presence during the Giants' offseason workouts and training camp was barely a rumor. The first-rounder from LSU missed most of that time, including the entire preseason and the first four weeks of the regular season, trying to get over a right hamstring injury that he initially suffered last spring. He finally debuted in Week 5, and you know what happened. Beckham went on to shatter records and minds with some incredible playmaking ability. And for his 91 catches, more than 1,300 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, would you believe that he did it all with a couple of tears in that right hamstring? Beckham says he did. quot;[The two hamstring tears] healed up enough to where I could play with them, but they were never truly good, and I'm still just working on them and trying to get ready," Beckham said after Sunday's Pro Bowl. "... I should be good by training camp. The plan is to play at full strength next season, and I definitely hope to do it. I'm just looking forward to getting healthy." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Really? It's difficult to fathom how Beckham could be any better than he was in 2014 -- he averaged more than 100 yards and a touchdown per game -- but, OK. Beckham's right hamstring was still well enough for him to kick a 46-yard field goal leading up to last night's game, a Vine of which you can see at the link below. But perhaps this story is equal parts amazing and concerning. Hamstring injuries are relatively easy to aggravate and can linger for long periods of time that can turn into longer periods of time with each re-injury. And it's alarming when any hamstring injury that didn't require surgery takes more than seven months to fully heal. I think Beckham is worth a high second-round pick in most leagues next season. But if you disagree, his injury history can be a legitimate part of your reasoning.
