Bears QB Jay Cutler has history with new quarterbacks coach Posted: 25 Jan 2015 09:42 PM PST The Bears' newly hired quarterbacks coach, Dowell Loggains, is said to have a close relationship with QB Jay Cutler. Loggains' NFL career began in 2006 with the Titans. While in Tennessee, the 34-year-old coach oversaw the quarterback position from 2010-12. Both Cutler and Loggains are close in age and have obvious Nashville-based roots as Cutler played college ball at Vanderbilt. In fact, it's rumored that Loggains suggested that the Titans draft Cutler over Vince Young in 2006. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The move to hire Loggains suggests that the Bears will stick with Cutler in 2015. Apparently, the new John Fox-led coaching staff believes that giving Cutty what he wants will prevent the 31-year-old toddler from pitching unnecessary fits. If Smokin' Jay is still in Chicago come the fall, he could prove to be a value pick at the QB position. That said, I'd personally prefer to add him as a high-end QB2. |
TE Jordan Cameron unlikely to be retained by Browns Posted: 25 Jan 2015 01:54 PM PST After four years in Cleveland, Browns TE Jordan Cameron will probably have to move on in 2015. Set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring, Cameron has struggled to stay healthy since being selected in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. Reports from inside the organization suggest that the Browns will not attempt to re-sign the USC product. FANTASY ANALYSIS: An impressive talent, Cameron has yet to complete a full season without getting hurt. Set to turn 27 in August, the 6-foot-5 and 249-pound tight end could prove to be an enticing value pick next season, as many fantasy owners will be scared off by his durability concerns. Depending on where he lands, Cameron might very well step into a stock-boosting spot this coming fall. Given the fluky nature of his position, Cameron is a high-end streaming option at worst and a formidable every-week start at best. |
Browns WR Josh Gordon flunks another substance test Posted: 25 Jan 2015 01:13 PM PST Browns WR Josh Gordon has failed another substance test -- this time for alcohol -- and could be banned from the NFL for a full year as a result. A series of similar violations have plagued the 23-year-old receiver since his time at Baylor. Playing just five games in all of 2014, Gordon's future in Cleveland is decidedly undecided. FANTASY ANALYSIS: An awe-striking specimen of physical fortitude, Gordon's inability to stay out of trouble is destroying his career. After a Week 17 suspension, rumors of his inevitable departure from the Browns began to swirl. If he's banned for another year because of this most recent slip-up, he'll certainly be sent packing. Given the rust we saw after missing the first 10 games of the season, I can only imagine what another year outside of the league might do to his on-field abilities. Save the Patriots' Bill Belichick, I'm not sure any other coach or team can successfully mold this wideout's raw talent. A boom-or-bust prospect at this point, Gordon's dynasty stock is plummeting. |
Eagles and WR Jeremy Maclin have trouble making deal Posted: 25 Jan 2015 12:56 PM PST Following a career season, it was expected that Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin would quickly re-sign with the team. After hiring a new agent, however, the two sides appear to have hit a bit of a standstill. As this is to be the veteran wideout's first big-money contract, Maclin's representatives are seeking an aggressive deal on behalf of their star client. Last month, Maclin praised the organization and said that he wanted to end his career in Philly. FANTASY ANALYSIS: A Comeback Player of the Year candidate, Maclin's play in 2014 was fresh and inspired. The former first-round pick closed out the year catching 85 balls for 1,318 yards and 10 TDs. Proving he could hang with the most elite players at the position, Maclin stepped up and -- in the absence of DeSean Jackson -- seamlessly became the Eagles' No. 1 receiver. The team has until March 10th to finalize a contract with Maclin. Assuming he returns to Lincoln Financial Field this coming fall, Maclin has WR1 potential in 2015 fantasy drafts. If he leaves, WR Jordan Matthews could see his fantasy stock rise dramatically. |
