Lions WR Calvin Johnson ready to return after Week 9 bye

Posted: 29 Oct 2014 02:29 PM PDT

With their bye week on tap for Week 9, the Detroit Lions will use the time off to rest and heal, specifically star WR Calvin Johnson. Johnson said Wednesday that he plans to be ready to go for the team's Week 10 game with Miami. quot;Definitely expect to play," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to the game, playing some old teammates. That makes it all that much better." Johnson has missed the past three games due to a high right ankle sprain. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is good for every Lion's fantasy value except for WR Golden Tate. Tate has filled in nicely in Johnson's absence, averaging eight catches for 116 yards receiving with two touchdowns in the three games. He has been a WR1 the past few weeks but figures to slip to a low-end WR2 upon Johnson's return. Johnson's return will definitely be good for QB Matthew Stafford, giving him his biggest receiving weapon back. It will also help open running lanes for whoever is manning Detroit's backfield, whether it be Reggie Bush, Joique Bell or even Theo Riddick.

Report: Redskins QB Robert Griffin III to start Week 9

Posted: 29 Oct 2014 02:10 PM PDT

According to quot;Redskins Showtime" host, Dianna Marie Russini, the Redskins have decided to turn to Robert Griffin III at quarterback for their Week 9 game with the Minnesota Vikings. Griffin has been battling back from an ankle injury he sustained in Week 2. Griffin practiced in full Wednesday, splitting first-team reps with Colt McCoy. McCoy filled in admirably for the Redskins in their Monday night win at Dallas. However, the talk afterward turned immediately to the fact that it's clear that Griffin is the most talented quarterback on the roster. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Minnesota's pass defense allows the second-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, so the better the player Washington can trot out there, the better chance it has to win. For fantasy owners, Griffin's return to the lineup means upgrades for all other skill players on the Redskins, primarily WRs Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson, and TE Jordan Reed. Due to the matchup and the fact that it's his first game back, I don't recommend starting Griffin unless your main QB is on bye or if you are in a two-quarterback league.
