Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is 'clearly' team's top receiver

Posted: 03 Aug 2014 02:07 PM PDT

Colts beat writer Josh Wilson says that Hilton is 'clearly the one receiver, [Colts WR Reggie Wayne] is the two.' Wilson relegates newly-acquired Colts WR Hakeem Nicks to the WR3 role, and expects that when Nicks comes on to the field, Wayne will play the slot position - not Hilton. With Wayne on the sidelines with a knee injury in 2013, Hilton posted the highest stats of his career, catching 82 balls for 1,083 yards and five touchdowns. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is good news for Hilton's usage in the Colts offense. While there was never a serious threat that he would be unseated by Nicks or Wayne, it is nice to hear that he's clearly the team's top receiving option going into 2014. And Wayne's presence on the field may help Hilton statistically, as defenses deal with two strong receivers. Hilton is appropriately valued as the 24th WR in drafts, Wayne may be undervalued as the 37th, and with this news, Nicks now looks overvalued as the 43rd WR off the board.

RB Arian Foster back out of Texans practice; WR Andre Johnson still sidelined

Posted: 03 Aug 2014 12:22 PM PDT

Texans running back Arian Foster was apparently over his hamstring issue when he practiced Wednesday after missing a couple of days. Apparently not. Foster has not practiced since. Although the exact reason for his absence hasn't been disclosed, it's believed to be about that troublesome hamstring. Wide receiver Andre Johnson is also dealing with his own hamstring injury. He suffered it on Monday. Despite not practicing, Johnson is holding out hope that he will play in the Texans' first preseason game, Aug. 9 versus the Cardinals. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I'm probably worried more about Foster because the tribulations with his hamstrings are more recent, and he's been hurt more often in general.. Remember that he missed the final eight games of last season with a back injury while Johnson has played in every game since 2012. If these guys have to miss a preseason game or two, I won't be terribly concerned. If this lingers into Week 3, some adjustments need to be made to the rankings. This is why you shouldn't draft your fantasy teams until the final week of August at the earliest. You must be aware that Foster's backup is Andre Brown. And DeAndre Hopkins stands to gain if Johnson misses any regular-season action.

Giants WR Odell Beckham out for preseason opener

Posted: 02 Aug 2014 09:50 PM PDT

Odell Beckham did not travel with the Giants to Canton for Sunday's Hall of Fame Game, according to the New York Daily News' Ebenezer Samuel. The rookie wideout missed every practice this week with a hamstring injury. Beckham, drafted 12th overall in this year's draft, is expected to slot in as the Giants' second or third wide receiver along with Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Those hoping to get a read on Beckham's NFL readiness will have to wait at least another week, as he will not be making an appearance on the field tomorrow night. The 5-foot-11 former LSU standout should see plenty of playing time once he's able to make it on the field. While the hamstring injury was also an issue in OTAs, it's possible that the Giants are simply being careful with their prized first-rounder. Expectations for his first year should be tempered, but Beckham is an extremely talented prospect who should be on every dynasty owner's radar.
