Video: Remove The Alias Arrow In Finder Posted: 19 Sep 2013 10:56 AM PDT Hey, A new video for today. You can remove the small arrow in the bottom left hand corner from Finder icons. This is a small image overlay that you can remove by severing the link between the image and Finder. Its just a case of renaming the file and restarting Finder. It is a good way of cleaning up your desktop to make every icon look the same. You can watch the video below or on Youtube. If you enjoy the video below subscribe to the channel for more videos. The file path used in the video is the following: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ Want to catch up on the latest Tweets about this site, follow me on Twitter. Guest Post: Time Management and Schedules on Mac OS X Posted: 19 Sep 2013 10:33 AM PDT Hey, We have a quest post today (ohh exciting) on your time management. The calendar and the reminder tools within Mac OS X are really useful in ensuring you don’t forget anything. I have many reminders at work to make sure I hit deadlines and don’t miss important meetings. With the integration of Mac OS X, iOS and the various devices making sure you don’t miss deadlines or meetings is even easier. Tell me what you think of the article below and I will find more guest posters in the future. In preparation for fall classes, the school district of Chappaqua, N.Y. informed parents they would not be receiving printed calendars for semester events. Instead, to save taxpayer money, parents can now view calendars online, with the option of syncing them to their smartphones by clicking on an iCal subscription link. Mobile calendar management is the hottest trend in personal and business scheduling. But some iPhone, iPad and Mac users may not realize the powerful time management capability already built into their devices. Apple’s Calendar ToolSince 2002, Apple’s products have come bundled with a calendar management tool similar to Microsoft’s Outlook. Apple’s Calendar (formerly iCal) lets users create multiple calendars for different categories, such as home, school and work. For each day, you can schedule an event, describe a location, set a time range, schedule reminders to yourself and invitations to others, and attach associated files for quick access. You can also add to-do items with different priority assignments. Finally, you can subscribe to customized calendars, such as holiday schedules, downloadable from Apple’s website. (Tip: to create events quickly, hit Command-N, or push the plus sign.) It also interfaces with Apple’s iCloud service, enabling sharing and syncing with other devices. By connecting with iCloud through a service such as Hosted Sharepoint at MyHosting.com, you can receive calendar notifications on your iPhone or other mobile devices, along with email notifications and contact and address lists. Task Scheduling and Time ManagementThe to-do list and integration features make iCal a powerful time management tool for task scheduling and completion. Scheduled events can be assigned different priority levels. Reminder notifications will then follow order of priority, ensuring that vital tasks get done first. Notifications can be delivered by email, SMS or pager. Calendar’s default alert system notifies you of birthdays and all-day events a day before. You can adjust this in the Calendar menu under Preferences. This function serves many uses for home, school or work. At home, alerts can deliver reminders about items such as bills, chores, medical appointments, or car maintenance. Students can receive homework and test reminders. In the workplace, users can organize their daily tasks by priority, making sure urgent paperwork and emails get attention and meetings and phone calls don’t get forgotten. Project managers can combine this approach with shared email and calendar tools for mobile team management. Beyond the BasicsAdvanced apps and other tools serve to enhance Calendar’s built-in features. For instance, the OmniFocus productivity app syncs with iCal to enable you to send yourself mobile reminders about customized checklists, such as grocery lists, cooking schedules and cleaning chores. Downloadable schedules from Apple and other sources further extend Calendar’s functionality. Instead of searching for the schedule of your favorite TV show or sports team, you can just check your iPhone. Want to catch up on the latest Tweets about this site, follow me on Twitter.
