Remove The Alias Symbol From Folders And Apps Posted: 06 Aug 2013 11:30 AM PDT Hey, When you right click on a folder you can make any file, folder or application an alias. This produces a shortcut to the original file allowing you to place this alias anywhere on your Mac. Every alias has a small icon in the bottom of the image, a little arrow that tells you that this file is an alias. Today’s post is going to show you how to remove it. I stumbled upon the image file that controls aliases from a previous tip on how to find system icons. The little arrow in the bottom left corner is controlled by an image file. Remove Alias Arrow Symbol To remove the alias symbol open Finder. From the Go > Go To Folder menu bar option enter the following path by copying an paste it into the box. /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ There will be a file within the icon list called “AliasBadgeIcon.icns”. This is the icon that controls that little symbol. Rename this to something like “AliasBadgeIcon-old.icns”. You will need to enter your password. The final step is to enforce the change. You can restart your Mac, but the quicker way is to open Terminal from the Applications > Utilities folder. Type the following command to restart Finder. killall Finder This will restart Finder  and you will notice that aliases no longer have the small arrow in the bottom left corner. If you want to get back the little arrow, follow the tip, but rename the file back to original. You could also replace the image with something different, however still change the name so you have a backup.
