Remove Service Menu Scripts and Apps From Your Mac Posted: 05 Aug 2013 11:30 AM PDT Hey, When you right click within Finder there will be an option called Services. Small scripts that speed up your day to day life. These little scripts can also be accessed from the menu bar under Application > Services. They are little programs that do very specific things with bits of data. Over time these services will build up. You will start to grow a collection. At some point you will want to remove them and clean up the Service menu. Hide ServicesIf you want to keep a service but want to hide it from view. You can do this from System Preferences. Open it and select the Keyboard Preference Pane. From the Keyboard Shortcuts tab select the Service option from the left column. This is a list of most Services. You can uncheck the ones you don’t want and they will disappear. Note that you may also find some services from the Applications Shortcuts option. You may need to quit System Preferences and the app the service lives in (for example music services within iTunes) for the change to stick. Delete ServicesThe previous tip hides Services, this is suitable in most cases. However, if you want to delete them you need to use Finder. Open Finder and use the Go > Go To Folder option to open any of the three folders below. These store the services your Mac uses. /System/Library/Services/ /Users/James/Library/Services/ /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ Most third party Services will be located in one of these three folders. You can delete the workflows or services and they will be removed from your Mac. If one is not in this list it is a system Service and need to be hidden using the tip in the previous section.
