Video: Setting Up Guest Users In Mac OS X

Posted: 14 Aug 2013 12:00 PM PDT

Hey,

There is a new video on the MacTricksAndTips video channel. This video is all about setting up guest users. I like having a guest user on my Mac as it allows other people to use my laptop without having access to my account or the various settings. It is a great way to let people onto your Mac without them screwing it up.

Adding Guest Users

Guest users can be added under the system preferences option within the Users & Groups tab. You can get the latest videos from the channel by subscribing.

For some reason the audio on this video is a little up and down. It sounded find on my Mac.

Clear Terminal’s History To Remove Previous Commands

Posted: 14 Aug 2013 11:11 AM PDT

Hey,

You can look back at all of the previous Terminal commands within Terminal by typing in history. This gives you a list of ever Terminal command you have entered. This list can get very long and  you may, at some point, want to clear the list to trim it down and remove the amount of entries. This is a good way of starting afresh or deleting wrong or incorrect commands.

Cleaning Up The List

To clean up the list open Terminal and type the following:

history -c

The -c option is the clear option. This will clear the history file completely. You now have a blank history file.

Its is a quick, simple trick to clean up the file. Currently my history file has 3000 entries which is a fair few.
