Change What Happens When You Plug In A Camera or iPhone

Posted: 13 Aug 2013 11:30 AM PDT

Hey,

When you plug in a camera, SD card, or an iPhone, iPhoto may pop up asking you to import the images. This can be very annoying especially if you don’t want the images importing or you want to do something else with them. Fortunately you can, by changing which application is used to open the images you can tell your camera not to open the images in iPhoto. You can set the images to open in a different application or not open an app at all.

Changing The App

To change the app which is used to open the images on your SD card or iPhone, first plug in the device you want to change. For example insert the SD card into the SD card slot on your Mac.

The next step is to open Image Capture app. This is located in your applications folder.

The Image Capture app is a powerful app for doing some minor tasks.

In the bottom left hand corner there is a drop down list. Here you can change which application is used to open the image. This can be iPhoto, Preview, Finder or any other app you want.

Change the app to No Application to stop images opening.

Select the no application option from the menu to stop any application from opening when you insert an SD card.
