| Save Photo Stream Images Within Finder (Bypassing iPhoto) Posted: 15 Jul 2013 12:13 PM PDT Hey, Last week I posted about saving disk space with Photo Stream by deleting old files. I had a thought, can we set up a Finder search to bypass iPhoto entirely and see our latests images within Finder, thus allowing us to save these images directly. Turns out you can, this post is going to show you how to set up a search folder that will open up the folder each time, giving you just the images. Every time photo stream updates and downloads the latest files, you can access them directly from Finder. Set Up The Finder SearchThe first step is to open the folder itself. Within Finder, from the menu bar, select Go > Go To Folder. Enter the following path: ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub When you open this folder, you will notice there is a variety of sub folders. Each of these folders contains and image. Each of these images is a file within Photo Stream. Within the spotlight search box within Finder type the following: kind:image This will search your Mac for images, however we can restrict the search just to this folder by selecting “sub” from the menu that appears. The search will now only apply to this folder. To ensure the search will only apply to images, if you click the plus button to the right of the image, you can ensure the filetype is set to “image”, this will ensure you only pick up images. Save The SearchOnce the search has been setup you can save the search. Within the small menu bar click on the “save” button. This will save the search, give it a suitable name. When you have saved the search it will appear within the sidebar, allowing you to access it at any point. You can also add this search to the Dock as a Stack. This can either be done by dragging it into the Dock, or by right click on the search within the sidebar and selecting add to dock. Every time you get a new photo stream image, which updates every 5 minutes, the Finder search will update as the new images are downloaded.
