Arizona Police Records Database

The state of Arizona upholds a significant collection of arrest histories, criminal profiles, and conviction reports. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is responsible for a variety of services and agencies in the state, which includes the Technical Services Division, the Highway Patrol Division, and the Criminal Investigation Division. Of these three divisions, the latter is the main repository of all Arizona police records and several state documents. People who want to gain access to their own arrest reports may do so by contacting the said agency.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety only conducts criminal record searches through a fingerprint-based search. This means that no name-based searches are performed in this office. All requesters who wish to view their own criminal or arrest history profile must obtain a Record Review Instruction Packet from the aforementioned office. The contents of this packet include a guide for correctly completing the packet, a fingerprint card, a request form, and a pre-addressed envelope. Requesting access to your own personal records is free of charge, but the processing may take 15 working days to finish.

Since Arizona does not allow the public to access third party criminal records, there is a rule prohibiting anybody - except the criminal record owner - from viewing the dossier. Only authorized law enforcement entities, employers and employment agencies can be granted permission to obtain copies of other people's criminal records. Basic information that can be dissected from a criminal background check include arrest histories (for felony and misdemeanor cases), for conviction, and for domestic violence incidences.

Officially established in 1969, the Criminal History Records Section is another one of Arizona Department of Public Safety's main divisions that has the authority to administer arrest histories and criminal records. The office's main function is to combine the tasks of three law enforcement agencies, namely the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control, the Narcotics Division of the Department of Law, and the Arizona Highway Patrol. In addition to performing criminal background checks, the office is also responsible for informing the general public on matters of state law enforcement and public safety.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety also provides employment background checks for approved employers and employment agencies. They are also authorized to disseminate clearance letters and provide fingerprinting services. Furthermore, the agency is also capable of providing national clearance and check services. The records that are available to the public in this office are divided into three sections: the public safety department records, the public record offenses, and the Arizona background checks through criminal history records.
