Set The View Options In Finder Posted: 12 Jan 2013 04:42 AM PST Hey, Finder has an interesting option where you can lock the view options of a Finder folder. For example, the applications folder is normally lock by name. This can be very useful if you always want to see a folder in a particular order. Changing the view option is a simple step and can make your life easier if you always want Finder to display files in a particular order. This tip can also be used if you can’t change the way Finder orders files, such as by name or date used. Changing The View OptionsWhen you right click on a folder there will be an option called ‘Show View Options’ This controls all of the view options for the Finder window. This will open a small popup dialog box which you can change. At the top of the menu there is an ‘Arrange By’ menu option. When you select an options from the drop down list; such as name, kind, date last opened etc, it will lock the view options within the Finder window. Which means you cannot change how the Finder window looks. One tip that I do recommend is that you order the files how you want before you change the menu option. For example, if you are going to order the list by name. Order them either ascending (A to Z) or descending (Z to A) before you select the arrange by option of name. When you select this option it will take the order that is currently present. If you want to remove this option, allowing you to order the list however you want, simply select none from the drop down menu.
