Retirement Villages that Suit the Lifestyles of Baby Boomers

By Lance Drummer

People who were born during the time of January 1, 1946 and December 31, 1964 are called Baby Boomers. As of January 1, 2011 it is estimated that there will be a minimum of ten thousand people who retire each and every day in the United States. This will be the case until the very last day of 2029.This should coincide with the last day that babies born during 1946 and 1964 are scheduled to retire.By any stretch of the imagination, that is a large number of people to retire at one time.

This might not be of importance to you, but it should be.Since the time of birth, Baby Boomers have managed to influence American culture in more ways than one.As you might already know, there is power in larger numbers. Baby Boomers could possibly make up the most popular and largest group in American history. Each phase of life for this group has had some type of influence on American life. For example, new schools had to be constructed when they were ready to go to elementary school, just because of their large numbers. So, no one should be amazed that more retirement homes must be built because they are now reaching retirement age.

More retirement villages must be built in order to accommodate the large number of Baby Boomers. But, they should not be built like the ones that were constructed years ago.Retirement homes have really transformed lately. They cannot be compared to those where your grandparents lived until their days were numbered.Baby Boomers might be reaching the age of retirement, but this does not mean that they will be retiring.Because of bad economic times, many of them will continue to work. For them, life does not stop, but gets better.

Baby Boomers do not want to sit on the porch and watch time go by.Today's senior citizens are lively and want to do fun things. This says that current retirement living must have amenities that they will love to do.Don't try to classify all seniors as a boring bunch of people who are only interested in doing activities that are normally associated with elderly people.Sure, there will be seniors who like playing bingo and making crafts. But today's retirement villages know that that most seniors want to play tennis, go for a swim or even powerwalk through the neighborhood.Baby Boomers are living longer and want to enjoy the rest of life participating in the same kinds of activities that younger people enjoy.

Eighty two million people will become legal retirement age within the next seventeen years. This does not necessarily mean that they are going to retire. But, this does mean that they will help to restructure society again. Not only are current retirement villages scrambling to remodel their existing communities, but society as a whole is trying to keep up with demand and build more retirement homes.

In conclusion, January 1, 2011 marked another milestone for Baby Boomers. They have entered into a new phase of life. They have longer lives than the generations that were ahead of them.Because of their size, this is just another way in which they will impact society.
