The moment my sister told us all that she was getting ready for her first child we were all surprised. She was still living in the family house and wouldn't even be married until the fall. Regardless of that my other sister and I came to the decision to split a; nursery furniture set for the coming baby. As an extra gift though; I thought it would be nice to remodel the basement for until she was able to move out.
The men in my family come from a long line of carpenters and handymen. My dad's dad, his dad and my dad and I are all experienced in carpentry so when it came time to get some remodeling work done I figured it would be a piece of cake. I'm obviously a natural.
My first task was to start with the kitchen. It was old and moldy and hadn't been kept up with in years. All I had to do was take down the old paneling, take out the old flooring, take out the old counter and cabinets and replace everything. With my apparent background it should've been done like it was nothing at all.
As it came down to complete the project though; it was anything but a piece of cake. I couldn't fit in the new cabinets through the narrow doorway let alone nursery furniture. I had problems through the whole process and even gashed my hand on the old linoleum flooring.
Ultimately I gave up half way through and called the professionals. The came in and made me feel stupid with the ease in which they finished the job. They fixed everything I screwed up and did it at a low cost. Now my sister can live down there and we even fit the nursery furniture in when all was said and done.
