Mediterranean Diet Cuisine for Breast Cancer Survivors

By Ray Darken

Did you know anyone that is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment or has survived the illness? If you do, then it can be extremely helpful if you'll pass this document on to her. Of course , she should know that changing to the much healthier Mediterranean diet can help her shed pounds. Why is this crucial? You will understand in a while. You can register for more free information at this link.

Girls with breast cancer need to observe their weight rigorously since any extra weight at the time of diagnosis or any time during treatment can noticeably increase her risk of cancer recurrence. Well, to be honest about it, you would not go into such troubles if you are on a Mediterranean diet.

According to a study released in the June 2010 issue of the Book of Female Health, following a plant-based olive oil rich diet for 8 weeks resulted in a 5% weight loss in 80% of the women who adopted the diet. This diet yielded noticeably better results since only 31% of those people who followed the conventional low fat diet advocated by the Nation's Cancer Institute (NCI) achieved equivalent results.

After completing the 8 week trial, the players were allowed to choose which diet they would like to follow for another six months. Intriguingly enough, most of the women who completed the opening study went for the plant-based olive oil rich diet which is pretty much similar to the traditional Mediterranean way of eating. What's rather more fascinating is that all of these ladies managed to stay with their chosen diets: Something that people who went for the NCI endorsed low-fat diet failed to do.

As an added bonus, those that stuck to the Mediterranean-like diet were observed to have lower triglycerides and higher HDL or good cholesterol levels, two factors that further reduce cancer risks.

Now, are there any questions left why the Mediterranean diet is nice for breast cancer patients and survivors alike? I don't think, so you better prepare yourself and make that switch!
