Setting a Bridal Budget

By Derek Smith

One of the most stressful years in a person's life is the year that they plan their wedding. After the initial excitement of the engagement wears off it is time to get to business and plan a wedding. For every person that has an unlimited wedding budget there are hundreds more that are planning their wedding on a strict budget. For these people it is important to set a budget early on in the wedding planning process and stick to it no matter what.

Depending on the type of wedding that is planned, there are many things that must be accounted for. One of the best things to do is to research wedding planning online or actually talk to a wedding planner to get to know what you want for your wedding. If you are doing a traditional wedding, you can keep your list of expenses down, if you are going for a luxury wedding the price tag could get well above $10,000. It is important to know what is necessary before planning any of these weddings.

When planning a wedding it is not only important to understand who will pay for what, but how much money the wedding will cost. When figuring out an actual total amount that you have to work with it is important to leave a good portion of that unused in case of an emergency. For instance if you have $10,000 in total cash available, a good idea would be to only use $8,000 for wedding planning and keep the additional $2,000 in case of any last minute emergency fee that is required by one of the businesses that you are using for your wedding.

A good rule of thumb in wedding planning is to plan early and save. A good idea is to cut out any other major expenses, such as vacations or big purchases during the wedding planning process as this will cut into your wedding.

It can also help if you can pay some of the items (restaurants, catering services, photographs) in advance.

One of the keys in wedding planning is negotiating prices with various businesses. For instance, when dealing with a small cake or flower shop it is always a good idea to shop around and look for a great offer as these companies will be glad to deal with you.

One thing to remember is that with the proper planning and great negotiation you can have the wedding of your dreams no matter what your budget is.
