Can You Develop A Better Attitude?

By Harvey Warner

When it comes to your quality of life, attitude is everything! Crazy as it is, whatever you normally concentrate on will manifest in your life, sometimes by design and sometimes by choice. You have met people before whose attitude is horrific. Maybe those people complained around the clock about how terrible their life was. Didn't you find being around them emotionally exhausting?

A negative attitude is detrimental to you and to anyone unfortunate enough to be around you.

A good attitude, instead, transforms you into someone everyone wants to have around, as everyone can use a shot of positivity. So why can't that be you? If so, read on for some easy ways to develop a positive attitude.

Do what you love. Surely, this includes your hobbies and other activities, but it mostly pertains to your job. Are you happy in your profession? Are you spending most of your time on something that makes you feel purposeful and fulfilled? If the answer is no, a career change might be necessary. When you regularly do things that make you happy, you can't help but feel better about yourself and your life, which fosters a positive attitude.

And never settle for less than the best. It's easy to get into the habit of seeing doom and gloom in every situation, but doing so keeps you forever focused on the negative. Only expect good things, even when your first thought would rather go in a negative direction. Affirm as often as you can, "This is going to work out great! Expect beautiful surprises to be on the way to you. Once you really believe it, good things will come.

Make yourself stronger. Use encouraging self-talk and positive thinking. We often abuse ourselves in the process of self-talking. Don't be your worst enemy, and make sure you respect yourself. Affirm your good qualities and downplay your negative qualities. You are in the process of reinventing yourself - give yourself some slack.

Empower others. Do what you can to empower others as much as possible. Both people you know and people you don't. The more empowering you are to others, they more you will be liked, which will make you feel good about yourself.

Most things cannot break you. If you are overly afraid of failing, you will never even start. Learn how to recognize your strengths. If you feel empowered and transfer that power around you, your self-worth will grow beyond measure.
